Very subtle. Really enjoyed this! — 6 years ago
Another killer Wednesday Wine Committee lineup. As always, 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind.
I guessed mid-80s Bordeaux. This was so youthful! Surprised all of us. 49yrs young and doing just fine. Great color...garnet core. Plenty of cranberry, old black cherry and new saddle leather. Definitely some herbal/mushroom characteristics on the palate but they are surrounded by more red fruit and underbrush at the finish. Structure is still very solid! Just incredible wine can taste like this at this age. — 7 years ago
Very good! Paired this with bison meatballs (fresh parsley, garlic powder, pepper, onion powder) ... baked 3/4 and then simmered in marinara over whole wheat spaghetti. Awesome dinner. — 8 years ago
Only red we had paired w Basque tapas & what a pairing. It’s a blend from Outside Madrid- syrah, garnacha, carinena & morenillo , it all hangs together in a loose, fresh style. Not too far removed from a Cru Beaujo. Dark red fruits, surprisingly long & a bit of grip. A ‘ villages level’ from the Spanish version of the Gang of Four. An easy wine easy to like. — 3 years ago

Big, dry Spanish Monastrell, with medium tannin, herby finish at Barcelona in the South End, Boston — 8 years ago
Magnum 1982 Pichon Longueville Contesse de Lalande. First time any of us had tried this. July 4 group dinner at Bouch (A&S, J&D B, McC). Loved this. Decanted and served pretty quickly. — 8 years ago

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.
Full bodied with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, spices, oak, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, light earth, light vegetables, herbs, tobacco leaf and black pepper.
Medium finish with grippy tannins and raspberries.
This 15 year old, Fifth Growth Bordeaux, is still young and tight. Needs 5 to 10 years in the bottle to mature properly.
I gave it 90 minutes in the decanter, but it probably was not enough.
Robert Parker 96 points. Wine Spectator 92 points.
Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Grippy and rich.
Definitely needs food at this point, like a big piece of steak.
A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.
13% alcohol by volume.
92 points.

Another great wine from the Wagner family ! — 6 years ago
Venge definitely doesn’t miss the mark with this fine Syrah. Finest Rhone I’ve enjoyed all year in fact! Dark, brawn and restrain. Will be a great one to buy and lay down as well! — 7 years ago
