Tried this twice and very much enjoyed it both times. — 5 years ago
Knife-throwing act where the knives are carved from peppercorns and the target board is quilted cherry. Westworld's Clementine casually offers herself as a target, laughing and alternating between espresso and whiskey shots. — 6 years ago
On Armenian Christmas must drink wine from Armenia, keeps getting better and better with bottle age. 2011 was the 2nd vintage and the 1st to get imported to the US in limited quantities. Wine is aged in clay pot (amphora) from vineyards of a 13th century monastery. — 8 years ago

Bright yellow. Ripe orchard and tropical fruit aromas are complicated by suggestions of lemon pith and honey. Smooth and fleshy in style, showing good depth to the juicy pear nectar, pineapple and melon flavors. Tightens up slowly on a long, silky finish that echoes the honey note. Third of the blind tasting for Father's Day weekend.
Dark purplish ruby red. Dark fruits on the nose with notes of forest floor and some aged characteristics of mushrooms. Solid acidity and heavy tannins (7/10). Rich palate on the attack with black fruits. Opened up to some anise, a touch aged, earthiness and some minerality. Medium plus body and long finish. Drink till 2028. (91+)
Will leave our last bottle for a few years. Hopefully this will improve with age. — 8 years ago
Third red of the evening. Deep garnet red. Needs time, slight portiness and whiskey on the nose. Dark fruits and figs too. Tasted blind but reminded us straight away of the 2009 Force Majeure IV we had earlier last year. Moderate tannins (6/10) and full bodied. A little cherry liquor and dark cocoa on the palate. Long finish and the nose is a bit off-putting. This needs time to mellow out. — 8 years ago

Tonight's wine is the 2014 Matthiasson Linda Vista Chardonnay. I had this bottle 4 years ago and now it has shown a little more age where it is starting to soften up and the fruit is ripening.
On the nose I am getting pineapple, jackfruit, lemon, honey, beeswax, vanilla bean, praline, caramelized sugar and saline solution.
On the palate I am getting lemon, white peach, pear, herbs, honeysuckle, citrus, beeswax, almond, wet flint rock and minerality.
The wine is medium bodied and still a good freshness to it, medium + acidity that moves right into a medium to long citrus finish. We are halfway through our third week of seclusion and it is getting a little more difficult but we need to make the best of a situation we had no control over. We will all get through this and come out on the otherside better for it. Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 5 years ago
Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here's a great one from Bordeaux.
Dark ruby in color with a short brick rim.
Nice nose of black currants, cherries, sweet raspberries, tobacco, spices, peppercorn, chocolates, wood, dark coffee, light vegetables, pencil lead and black pepper.
Full bodied and gentle with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blueberries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead, vinaigrette and wet leaves.
Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This third growth Left Bank Bordeaux, is starting to drink very nicely now. Nicely balanced with a big mouthfeel.
Earthy and spicy with lots of fruits. Already showing nice complexity, and beginning to show age on the palate.
Needs 3 hours to open up properly and show the big tannins, so be patient and don't drink it right out of the bottle.
This 10 year old is good by itself as a sipping wine to enjoy with friends.
Still young and needs 5 to 10 years in the bottle to mature.
Robert Parker 92 points.
I paired it with meats, cheeses and light appetizers.
A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 13.5% Cabernet Franc and 13.5% Petit Verdot.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
91 points.

I heard about this wine from a lot of old school buyers. It's living up to expectation and more. — 9 years ago

This is the third time that I’ve had the pleasure of drinking the 2005 Caravina over the last year and it continues to be a stunner. It pours a dark garnet with no color variation however, this bottle was throwing an enormous amount of sediment. The bouquet is powerful with a lovely mix of dark fruits; currants and plums with sweet pipe tobacco, leather, and mushrooms. The palate is decadent with a very forward attack and layer upon layer of fruits, baking spices and earthier secondary characteristics. Finish is dry, long and super satisfying. Impeccable balance. Would be a deft pairing for most hearty meals but a winner on its own. I have to believe these are drinking at or near peak but if this bottle (and the previous two for that matter) is representative, that peak may last for many years to come. Hard to believe this isn’t their Grand Vin. — 5 years ago
