The 2019 Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne is one of the hidden gems in Vietti’s stellar range. Crushed rocks, lavender, rose petal, mint, gravel and inky dark fruit all run through a racy, beautifully layered Barbera that will drink well right out of the gate. $20.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, December 2021)

A bit of an upgrade over the grocery store Bordeaux Blanc from yesterday. This is fine and even fine wine, but not as compelling as I remember this bottle from 15+ years ago.
Medium plus Ruby. Pomegranate, pit inflected tart red cherry. Distinctly bittersweet with impactful fruit entry that turns more bitter/savory on the palate. Finishes firmly dry with very fine tannins.

Perfect fine. Will I remember to add a longer note later? Probably not.

Lucky me..two fine Barberas tonight, both D’ Asti’s of Piedmont, Italy, still a secret to many. 2019 vintage. No crushed gravel or lavender or other non-discernible taste elements for my human palate (any human?) but a good-to-great full-flavored dark-deep-berry-almost thick but balanced-supple palate…a lush Italian experience. Previously drank, previously highly rated. A favorite of the ”Everyday Club”…

My first Barbera dAsti so I’m learning, just ok with a bit of roughness in the tannins and nit much of a finish.
