Jun 7th, 2023So pretty. Soft raspberry and violets. A gorgeous resolves wine but still fresh and young. Long and supple and delicious.

Feb 13th, 2021Stewed fruits, savory, perfume, pepper on the nose. Fall forest leaves, salty, stewed red fruits, pepper on the palate. Quite tasty.

Dec 5th, 2020To celebrate turning the page to a new decade, @deked1 surprised me with this 1983 Chateau Margaux…
As we sip this remarkable wine, we think back to the growing season of 1983… According to our brief research, Chateau Margaux completed its harvest after a less-than-ideal ripening period, marked by heat (especially extreme in July) and humidity, which set the stage for disease pressure through the end of August.
Some experts believe the commune of Margaux (from which Chateau Margaux hails) was the most successful across the region and that Chateau Margaux, in particular, was a shining star for its outstanding product that we are sipping with delight in this very moment.
As for the wine 40 years later, the color is medium tawny; tertiary characteristics leap from the glass such as wet earth, peat moss, dried prune, fig, dates, saddle leather, tobacco, clove, and meaty qualities… the palate has an extra lift with good acidity, medium alcohol (12.5% ABV), however, this wine is showing some mild evidence of TCA (surprisingly, it doesn’t overly distract from the other characteristics) and has probably already seen its peak.

Day 2 of WineBoyz Wineapalooza. Tasted blind. Dark color, almost opaque. Has some taint on the nose unfortunately. If you try to ignore it you can tell this is a big wine, but can't really evaluate it given the corked state. Bummer.

Mar 26th, 2022Medium deep garnet with a quite wide garnet rim . Aromatic with rose , pressed flowers , dried earth , forest floor . On the palate delicate with finesse , more red fruits than dark , those earthy notes and forest floor also, red currant , touch of smoke . Pretty melted tannins , good fresh acidity . Just starting to dry out perhaps on the finish so I would drink sooner than later . I get the impression that the aroma is so interesting and complex but the palate just lacks a little depth . But all in all this is quintessential Margaux. Drink now and over the next 5-8 years.

Jan 18th, 2024Bit old but the tannins stood up to the test, the cork was not looking good. Had this at thevar with kenlee Rufie and weng kit. You could really taste the age - had a dried fruit and full of tertiary notes. Vanilla oak red fruit. Went a bit flat at the end.
