Tasted blind. Light reddish/scarlet and mostly translucent. Notes of red fruit, tobacco leaf, violets. Very linear in its delivery, with no tannins and a mid-palate that is very light. Very refined. Guessed 61 Mouton. A good but not great Lafite... the critics are correct in marking this a level below some of the other 61 first growths. Drink up. (M's 60th bday 11th of 14)

Recorked In 89. Mostly oxidized and close to dealth. I think this is a storage issue and no reflection on the vintage as a whole

Interesting wine. I have one friend that is in the biz of determining fake wines. They think this was a fake, so I decided to open it. Not corked but flat. Acidity gone. Lots of cedar present. Then another friend, one that’s known as a great collector wanders by and says it’s real for sure. And likes it! Don’t you just love that about wine. Good, bad, real, fake, it’s all a toss up!!

From the famed '61 vintage this bottle was in fine shape, though it did drink like an antique. Elegant aromatics, florals, dried red currant fruits, sous bois, some good persistence, but it was a little short on the energy side for what you expect from CLR. Known as a slight under-performer for the year, it about fits that image. #lafite #1961

Dec 21st, 2016Beautiful light ruby color fading towards the rim. Med + complexity and intensity on the nose with wound up but dry black fruit with little sweetness. Bordeaux characteristics.
Palate was smooth and a touch watery with a med finish. The structure was very strong with firm tannins and acid. The wine was still compact and I got the feeling that it's going through an awkward stage and needs some more time. #chateaulafite #bordeaux #medoc #pauillac #1961 #ctbucklinwine
