Aurelien Verdet
Vieilles Vignes Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir

From 375 (night 2, because it was closed on night 1.) A leaner style with lots of sous-bois going on. Sweet black cherry fruit too, with stony and baking spice notes. Lean and minerally in the mouth, but with good persistence. I like more fruit, but this is pretty good, especially for $16.

This is the most delicious young red wine that I have had in a long time. This open Vosne, loaded with dark fruit aromatics and flavors had me under its spell immediately. It had ripeness and texture to go along with all of the Burgundian intangibles. Will one case be enough?

From a 375 ml. Beautiful nose of black fruit and forest floor. I could keep smelling this for days. On the palate cherries and earl grey tea. Light in color and body but a very distinguished wine. Well done.

Jan 29th, 2021Deep ruby red with thin edges. Unmistakably Pinot nose of cherry, floral notes, and mild spice as a kicker. A slightly more modern take on Cote de Nuits and yes, this is a villages bottle but the sheer elegance shows. Terrific balance, complexity, and approachability at this age and can easily wait for several more years. Coffee, blackberry cobbler, cherry cola, and tobacco on the palate. Can you say sous bois? So much forest floor and underbrush going on here, it’s positively lovely. Stellar length and minerality. Buy as much of this as you can.

Nov 22nd, 2018Once the earth and new oak wore off, this was a beautifully structured and powerful village Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée. Brooding on the nose with red and black fruits, sweet baking spices, animal leather, crushed limestone and a pronounced earthiness. Glad we have another bottle of this on hand. One of the best purchases from Last Bottle.

Solid Burgundy. It has a VR bibe and funkiness. Kind of closed now, young. Was on sale from K&L Wines.
