So this Niagara varietal is like a refreshing white grapes juice. Sweet but not too sweet. 😋 Perfect start to my holiday weekend and to celebrate #NationalWineDay 🥂 — 7 years ago
A rare venture into the New World for me and it was quite enjoyable. #nationalwineday — 8 years ago
Light golden color. Motley plush nose leading off with petrol, grassy herbs, spring flowers. Medium-bodied with forward acidity, lemon oil, very faint white pepper on the finish. This would be a delicious wine with moderately spicy Thai or Indian cuisine. Splendid #grunerveltliner from #niederösterreich. Happy National Drink Wine Day! #nationalwineday — 4 years ago
My wife & I purchased a couple of cases of wine not too long ago at a #nationalwineday sale at Max’s Wine Dive here in Houston and decided to throw a few of these guys into one of our build-your-own cases. Approachable, enjoyable, and delicious. Dark berries, leather, cassis, a slight hint of vanilla, and some musty cardboard as it opens up. Solid wine for the price. — 7 years ago

You know I’m going to do my part and celebrate #NationalWineDay with a glass of vino!
Here’s a California Zinfandel, produced by Broc Cellars. The grapes hail from the Wirth Ranch Vineyard in the Solano County Green Valley AVA of California, less than 15 miles from Napa Valley.
These grapes were grown on old vines, originally planted in 1948. Due in part to the volcanic soils, age of the vines, and Broc Cellars’s dry-farming practices, these vines produced lower yields and more intense concentration of flavors, aromas, and color.
A noteworthy feature of Zinfandel is its tendency to have an irregular fruit set, i.e., grapes that are part of the same bunch may mature at different speeds, something called millerandage, which can be a challenge, creating lack of uniformity, but in some cases may create a beautiful complexity.
This wine is medium purple.
It offers a medium intensity in youthful aromas. Aromas include tart black cherry, black currant, strawberry, rhubarb, violet, anise, fennel, pepper, nutmeg, clove, and delicate peat notes.
On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium(+) acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol, medium(+) tannins, and medium(+) intensity in flavors consistent with the nose. It has a medium finish.
This wine was spontaneously fermented with native, ambient yeast in an open steel tank and then aged for 10 months in a neutral French oak vessel. The resulting wine displays a freshness and purity of fruit character with more subtle spice.

Effingham Manor Cellars Effingham Reserve 2019, Virginia
Happy #nationalwineday. Celebrating with a unique one from Virginia.
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
On the nose black currants, oak, plums, black cherries, Indian spices, licorice, tobacco leaf, black tea, herbs, dark chocolates, eucalyptus and peppercorn.
Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, currants, oak, light vanilla, spices, espresso, earth, peppercorn, tobacco leaf and herbs.
Soft finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.
This is a very interesting red blend from Virginia. Showing nice complexity already, with a soft mouthfeel. Tasty and enjoyable.
Smells very much like a young Bordeaux right out of the bottle.
Needs an hour in a decanter to open up.
Once it opens up, the palate catches up to the Bordeaux Style as well.
Still young and needs a few years to mature. Showing good potential, and would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.
At this point, the Merlot is more dominant than the rest. Feels like a right bank Bordeaux. Spicy, tangy and entertaining.
Good by itself or with food. Really enjoyed the nose once it opened up. A very nice sipping wine.
A blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 19% Tannant, 15% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 14 months in American oak barrels.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
