A gem from our McLaren Vale trip in Australia. Sandalwood and dark fruit aromas with a plush weighted mouth presence busting with blackberries, blueberry, and tingling tannins powered by notes of black pepper and vanilla finishing smooth and silky — 7 years ago
The nose shows sweet & a touch sour floral fruits. Some of the fruits have a baked quality. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, stewed plum, baked cherries & black raspberries & dry cranberries. Dark chocolate, soft, delicate minerals, light spice, light layered baking spices; vanilla, cinnamon & clove. Some dates, figs & prunes, star anise, saddle-wood leading to cedar, dark, rich, sweet soil, dry rock powder, steeped fruit tea and dark fresh & withering florals.
The body is medium and tannins are round and soft. The flavors are ripe & delicious. The fruits are slightly baked & stewed. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, stewed plum, baked cherries & black raspberries & dry cranberries. Dark chocolate, soft, delicate minerals, light spice, light layered baking spices; vanilla, cinnamon & clove. Some dates, figs & prunes. Anise, saddle-wood leading to cedar, dark, rich, sweet soil, dry rock powder, steeped fruit tea and dark fresh & withering florals. The acidity fresh, lively and like a waterfall. The finish is flushed out. Balanced, easy to drink but it seems like the bottle might have been longer than optimal as it showed a touch faded. For $350 a bottle at the winery, one can do much better at that price point. That’s not to say it wasn’t a good wine.

Opened on 28th Sept 2018. Moroon brown. Heavy body. Heavy nose with deep wood and oak with a tinge of berries. Very mellow in scent. Not exciting but vintage nose. Acidic to palate with some sweet note. Heavy tannin. Long finishing. — 8 years ago
Great. Keeping a few to drink in a couple of years. Will be even better then. — 8 years ago

2019 vintage. Last tasted 10.30.24 (9.3). Popped for the staff as part of the usual Saturday Slurp. Previous visit was ridiculously delicious but undisciplined. All over the map and that was much of the charm...that rusticity and authenticity...but at Woodstock with 500K in attendance and the LSD-spiked punchbowl that ambushed The Who still found them nailing their set. Kinda similar to that. Yeah. So tonight's viz finds this bad boy relatively behaved with frontal palate richness and savory chocolate note along with a plushiness that was previously hinted at but unfulfilled. Gaminess gonzo for the most part as this seems to have settled into middle-age. Say it ain't so! Was crazy excellent in the punk rock era. Still excellent in the arena rock era. We'll see what happens in the crooner/standards era. 6.27.26. — 4 days ago
