“Special family moments” lol — 8 years ago
One of those great moments where you hold on to a wine praying for its promise. And then it delivers. Big time. Chocolate raspberry flavors with tons of supple tannin and rich smoke closing out with grilled meat nuances. 10 years old and yet very little sediment. I still have a bottle left. Will open in 2022 and can feel pretty good that it will still taste young. — 8 years ago
So. Last night cooked a rack of dry-rubbed ribs in my Instant Pot. Tonight topped with Kinders BBQ sauce and put under broiler for a few minutes (best ribs I've had in years!!). Paired with mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and this most delicious wine from Tanner Vineyards (Sierra Foothills). Some moments the cherry fruit stood out, others pepper, tobacco, and soft oak. Each sip a delight. Nice balanced acid too, I might add. Of course, now wish I had more bottles in my cellar. I guess I will just have to revisit the winery. Darn. (Mourvèdre, Carignane, Petit Syrah, syrah.) $26
Ps: I used smoked paprika instead of regular.

Gift from Erwin Salazar. Label says "Momentos - Our personalities are shaped by our experiences lived, feelings and moments which have formed us to be who we are." — 7 years ago

Super-young, all reserved and angular with notes of citrus water, a little salt and flinty edges. It is showing very little now, and I think it needs a fair bit of time but I wouldn't necessarily write it off. In one of those chicken and egg moments it reminds me of a young Arnot Roberts Chardonnay which can be fairly linear in their youth but develop plenty of nuance over time. This is neither a dud or a rock star but hopefully something in between. — 9 years ago
When you had a great wine you know it. It is when you wake up the next day and the one think on your mind is...That Wine! Chénas Quartz 2014 Cru Beaujolais from Domaine Piron-Lameloise is beautiful with its 'Teinte Grenat' colour. The nose is floral, Roses, with a touch of leather and also earthy and fruit forward of black Bing cherries. The depth of the wine is pleasantly surprising! It is better to decant it for 1hr and serving temperature should be around 17C. Stack on this wine for your cellar. It is a rare Gem! Wine pairing: For cheese lovers a nice blue cheese! Wine & Dine: Aiguillettes de canard accompanied with Cherry Chutney! One glass and you are Creating Moments! — 9 years ago
This was just stunning. One of those rare but complete Burgundy moments you dream about...
By a good head the best bottle of Burgundy I’ve had in a long time (from any producer, including a number of DRC La Tache etc.). A rare purity of fruit and intent - with a focused, peacock-tail like depth and length that just went on and on. A wonderful mix of redcurrents, raspberries, rhubarb, white pepper, and pomegranates, with a superb cut of scintillating acidity. The kind of wine that puts all the modern over-ripe Burgundies produced today into sharp focus. Why on Earth would any sane person aim for something other than this... — 7 years ago
Hands down, my favorite Marlborough Sauvignon. Grassy, sassy, and a big “fuck you” to the establishment. This wine packs a brash punch but throws in enough sweet caramel to put the masses at ease. Total Wine, buy again to celebrate those moments that the younger generation decides enough is enough. — 8 years ago
Last moments to enjoy at its best, but a balanced and still very alive wine. — 8 years ago
Earth smoke and tobacco. Some boring moments however — 8 years ago
Delightful and articulate, this more elegant CF was light & heavy. Buoyant in body, the cherry notes just pop with floral framework and spiced accents :) not a stunner, but a perfect pairing wine for those sophisticated moments. I will get the '13 vintage asap... A quality rendering of the varietal!! — 9 years ago
Sometimes you don't want to analyze, and just enjoy. This was one of those moments. — 10 years ago
