An impromptu meet-up in Stuttgart yielded a little 16' riesling study - Breuer vs. Aldinger. Rheingau vs. Württemberg. Both warmer regions in Germany and from a more generous vintage. Having said that, the Breuer stood out for rising above the appellation and vintage!
The Nonnenberg's so elegant and juicy. Had more drive and finish than the Aldinger Marienglas. On the nose, grapefuit, pear, hints of passionfruit, white florals, herbs. The palate is crazy juicy with a beautiful mix of citrus and wet stones. Finishes with a zing and a touch of creaminess. It's extraordinarily elegant for the region (as Breuer usually is!) and vintage. Can't wait to revisit this wine after some ample cellaring time. — 7 years ago

The time has come to think of Blaufränkisch (a.k.a. Lemberger) as the poor man's Beaujolais.
This took a while to open up... but with a little patience, man, one reaps rewards. Dark brambly fruit, light-bodied, but still a brooding wine, with supple, fine tannins. Had this chilled. Rainer Schnaitmann runs his cozy winery in a suburb near Stuttgart, where he serenades his barrels to Mozart, in the glow of candlelight. Lovely wine. — 9 years ago

Württemberg (more red grapes grown than white), region of Stuttgart. 13.5% Vol. Acidity 6.2 g/L. Residual sugar 4.2 g/L. VDP. This is a historic vineyard, Pulver meaning gun powder with old records mentionning a quary. 66% of steepness. Planted on sedimentary soils with sandstone.. A concentrated wine. Volume. Full and rich. Spicy profile. Great length with mouth coating finish. — 10 years ago
