La Voûte Saint-Vincent Morgon Gamay 2021

Cherry, violet, hay, a tiny touch of licorice too. This is quite exciting and profound. The palate is showing a massive acid backbone, some width and grip, some cherry notes, but the fruit is a little discreet. There are tannins popping up in the rear, disturbing the mouthfeel, powering up a tangy finish with cherry and a nice bitter note along with a tiny salty touch, almost sea breezesque if that makes sense. This is a serious beaujo, very different from fruit bombs and other crowd-pleasing usual expressions that people tend to rave about. This is gastronomy wine and playing in the same league as some other wines from a different varietal that grow a bit farther to the north. — 4 months ago

Tete du Clos Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Hell yea.

About an hour after opening - my astounded thought to myself: this must be the platonic ideal of ‘razor sharp precision’. Just an astounding, and absolutely delicious wine.

Les Côtes Saint-Joseph Syrah 2022

No notes. Beef jerky & dark cherries, on nose & palate. Thinner concentration I had hoped for, but suspect age, air and/ or long decant will bring it together — 3 months ago

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2002

2002 vintage. Last tasted 12.10.23. Rated that a 9.1. Decanted and tasted multiple times over the course of 1.5 hours. That great silvery color upon decanting. Infinitesimal sed. Still, the big orange peel flavors but better harmony and balance than the previous specimen two months ago. Bottle was in great shape. 2.4.24. — 3 months ago

Was not really a fan of the producer. But haven’t tried any in a long time.

@Pinotman /// Andreas A fan of both the whites and reds upon release-5 years. Usually very down the middle and workmanlike. Prefer their Premier Cru and village offerings (decent/honest pricing) vs the GC stuff. Haven’t had an older, middle-aged or newer GC from them that made me take notice in a good way. Tend to look a them as a gateway producer for those not über-familiar with Burgs.

Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2018

Very much on the dark, earthy, minerally side. So dark and full of smoky ember crushed stone that I’d almost be tempted to place it half-way around the world in Walla Walla. Palate is rich and dark, a highlights more savory minerally notes than fruit. Distinctive and good but not a typical fruity Crozes. — 6 months ago

Les Perrières Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2014

heavy reduction and a blast of spritziness. Matchsticks and bright lemon with a hint of marzipan. Salinity and a slight metallic bitterness on the finish that spoils the overall somewhat. Maybe age will mellow it? — 8 months ago
