Charred meat, crushed flowers, a savory note. This is great regardless of year. — 8 months ago

Great wine. Love that this is the entry offering. — 5 years ago
Opened and decanted about an hour before dinner. No formal notes. The 2007 B. Levet "La Chavaroche" is flat out beautiful right now. The aromatics are off the charts with gorgeous, ripe dark fruits, a bit of the animal, a veritable hillside of lavender, black olives, some deli case, black pepper, some leather and earth. The structure is still firm but everything is well integrated at this point; superbly balanced; great acid. The finish is long and has some ferrous minerals that I simply love. A sublime pairing with a Morgan Ranch Wagyu tenderloin served with corn purée, charred broccolini and juniper ash. The 2007's are absolutely ready to drink now with a short decant (mostly to remove any sediment) however, they will continue to drink well for another 10+ easy from good cellars.

1999 vintage. One of the most famous (H)Ermitage wines and it is great indeed. Blackberry fruit, spices and leather in the nose that is still holding back. Needs time to breathe. Intense and layered with still a lot of black fruit, fresh acidity and a powerful structure of very ripe tannin. Very long fresh spicy finish. Excellent (which it should be at a 200 euros price tag). — 3 years ago
Another great vintage for this wine. Brilliant whites in St. Joseph in 2018. Nose is super granitic with yellow fruits, superbly refined and defined. Palate is ripe and dense with superb finesse, yellow fruits and old vine sap. Juicy with great mineral freshness and clarity. Long finish. Always such a great wine. — 4 years ago
Popped and poured; consumed over two days. Consistent notes throughout. The 2018 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave "Saint-Joseph" pours a deep purple color with an almost opaque core. Medium+ (high?) viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, a little reductive and loaded with black, blue and red fruits, deli case, black olives, cocoa, purple flowers and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, rich and savory. Alcohol is high but it's in balance. This was a great pairing with grilled lamb chops. Drink now with patience or enjoy through 2038. FWIW, this bottle was enjoyed alongside a 2016 Christopher Tynan Syrah "Judge Family Vineyard" and while this bottle of Chave Saint-Joseph was really, really good. The Tynan was special. — 9 months ago
Rich, intense and opulent. A bigger vintage, but so well made, balanced and unlike how some other white Rhône’s can be, the alcohol is seamlessly hidden here. Layered with spiced orchard fruit, grilled nuts, honeycake, brown butter and nutmeg. There is a rich mouthcoating and viscous texture with great midpalate depth leading to a delightfully long finish. A great showing indeed. — 3 years ago
This is a nice wine to say the least. Very aromatic, with great smooth tannins. Earthy and meaty on the palate in a great way. Really quite nice — 6 years ago
Great stuff! Everything I could ask for in a Syrah. #msclassic #syrah #cornas — 8 years ago
