The Fog Monster

Amador County Chenin Blanc 2012

Pale amber. Fresh and fruity for a skin contact wine, maybe because of carbonic. Hint of smokey peat or pine resin on the nose with toffee, plenty of zesty orange and saline on the palate. — 8 years ago

Numanthia Toro Tempranillo 2011

A big, beautiful monster. Needs a full decant but as it relaxes it unfolds into a lush and powerful example of Tempranillo. — 9 years ago

Norman Vineyards

The Monster Zinfandel

Bright red fruit flavors with lush tannin. This wine can enjoyed on its own, with friends, on a sunny day. Or with rich duck confit and bbq'd red meats. Can't beat the price. -wine batman — 10 years ago

Wente Vineyards

Morning Fog Livermore Valley Chardonnay 2016

This yellow-gold wine rings the “old-style Cali” bell in all the right ways. A nose of apricots, mangoes and apples is helped along with the smell of buttered popcorn. Oak treats the palate as well, draping over the tropical fruit like a sunshade. The acidity is zesty, yet the mouthfeel tends toward creaminess due to the wine sitting on the lees for five months. The oak is a definite part of the wine, but the effect is softened enough so that it's a pleasure, not a pain. — 7 years ago

Calistoga Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Loved this Sav Blanc. No acidity. Pear and subtle minerals -mellow-almost like a good Chardonnay. Drank it with the growers,Tom and Brenda; amongst the grapes on the hillside outside Calistoga. Just fabulous. — 9 years ago

Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Not as much of a monster as other vintages but still an awesome wine. Great mix of dark fruit, spearmint, smoke, leather, and chocolate. Touch of tannin left. Gave it about an hour in the decanter. — 9 years ago
