The Bone Yard

Brooks Winery

Willamette Valley Riesling 2013

Brooks sells a tee shirt that reads, "If you don't like Riesling, you're a fucking idiot."

I'm on board. Honey and a floral white peachy nose with petrol. Then the palate is nothing like the nose. Bone dry, bracingly acidic. Low fruit character but a pineapple thing happening late in the finish. Minerality for days. Gonna have to buy some more and lay it down.

Loaded with nuts and saline additions, aged caramel and fatty Iberico pork. Smoke and coffee add complexity on the bone dry finish. Note to self for the 1000th time; drink more Sherry. — 9 years ago

Was the Blanc and delicious. Had this petrol nose that reminded me of Riesling. Bone dry and really cool. Would love to pair this with food — 11 years ago

Triple Zero Montlouis Petillant Chenin Blanc

Baked apples, honeysuckle, peanut shells, pomelo, limestone, sourdough. Excellent rounded acidity, minimal compact small bubbles, light bodied, crisp-bone dry mineral finish. Fine Pétillant character with more aromatics than most pet-nats. — 9 years ago

Clos du Bourg Sec Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2013

2013 vintage. Very impressive. Yellow apple but barely a hint of oxidation. Bone dry. Beautiful, driving malic acid. Great with our hamachi and fluke starters. Thankfully Absinthe in SF serves this, too. — 11 years ago

Estate Riesling 2013

Asked for a bone dry Riesling and this one delivered. Pleasant acidity, clean finish.

Serve this one to friends who will appreciate it. It's not your aunt's sweet Riesling.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1988

This was the 1988 tasted out of magnum. Amazing wine, aromatics full of red fruit, leather and rose petals. Super floral. Pallet is delicate with dried cranberry and a pronounced acid back bone. More delicate that I thought it would be — 10 years ago
