A special dessert wine. Relatively low in alcohol (13%). Quite fruity with black berry jam. Velvety and elegant, great to combine with chocolate desserts and red fruit desserts. — 7 years ago

Delish. Little bit of spice and the nose on the palette. — 5 years ago
Everything you’d want in an amarone. Burst of flavor at the beginning that then settles back into a relaxed, elegant finish. On the palate, some black plum mixed with a very faint dried cranberry or cherry. It all resolved into a wonderfully balanced finish, that is almost floral, but it’s more deep and complex than just floral. — 6 years ago

Fantastic Amarone in the Classical style — 8 years ago
Fruity and with some pepper. — 4 years ago
Color of burgundy with grapefruit orange on the rim. Nose of sweet citrus and tangerine, spice and strawberry jam, cherry, a bit minty, and the nose is plenty. Taste of follows the nose with addition of black tea, nice acidity and tobacco leaves. 2nd sip shows some sweet bourbon flavor. Some more dried strawberry follows with mellow bitter rind and really soft tannins. Aftertaste shows some more alcohol strength and grapefruit zest to balance out. Quite nice. — 4 years ago
Amarone dricks traditionsenligt på julafton — 5 years ago
A massive departure from the Tenuta della Terre Nere Rosso that we started the evening with. Loads of dark cherry, brambles, and spiced meat. The aromas were wild. I was also picking up some volatile acidity but it really helped give some lift the massive amount of fruit. On the palate, more dark fruits, spices and dried herbs. Lip smacking finish. It's so hard to get my head around Amarone with less than 10 years of bottle age, but the venue constrained my options. That said, this seems to be a more straightforward style of the revered Corvina blend. Nothing over-extracted, typical fruit notes of raisin, dried plum, maybe some cassis...in a warm brûlée with baked spice, graphite, and toasty oak and vanilla. The weight is moderate and the mouthfeel elegant. The only missing element versus the great cuvées is a bit of complexity/depth. Indeed, this is more like the best Valpolicella Ripassos I've had, with a touch more phenolic extraction. Call it a super-Valpo. — 9 years ago

Brought from my cellar and opened just before dinner at Casa Bovina where it was decanted with the expectation that it would be paired with our “Della Terre” course of duck and our “Bistecca” course of Certified Piedmontese rib cap. In the glass, the 2005 Luigi Baudana, “Baudana” pours a gorgeous, almost youthful garnet with a transparent core. On the nose, oooof…be still my beating heart! Cherries, strawberries, and blackberries with tar, truffles, roses and earth. I could just sit and sniff this for hours; my God it is absolutely divine! On the palate, the wine is bone dry and the tannins are well integrated now; acid at medium+. The finish is long and silky. What a gorgeous, elegant example of the 2005 vintage that comes across as Burgundian as any I’ve had from Serralunga d’Alba. This is drinking well now and will continue to do so well past 2030 but unless you have a bunch of this in your cellar, why wait?
It should be noted that Luigi was still responsible for the winemaking back in 2005. Just a few years later, the Vajra family took over and they continue to carry on the tradition and spirit of this small, traditional producer as Luigi and Fiorina have since retired and have no heir. The Baudana’s holdings lie on opposite ends of the Baudana MGA. Production remains minuscule; maybe 300 cases a year. — 3 years ago
