Château Coufran

Cur Bourgeois Supérieur Haut-Médoc Merlot 2003

The 2003 is borderline spectacular while the 2004 is much less enjoyable. At odds with other ratings on Delectable. — 10 years ago

Castagnoli

Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2013

Against all odds, this Chianti Classico is superb with fennel sausage and mushrooms! Well-defined structure with bright acid and a schist core. Pure and fresh, sign of a well-made natural wine. — 10 years ago

E. Fuligni (Cottimelli)

Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Medium ruby color. An earthy nose. Dark cherry profile introduces the medium tannins and ends with nice acidity. Very good balance. Should get better with time in the glass and odds are some cellaring would make it even better. — 10 years ago

Trimbach

F.E. Trimbach Hommage À Jeanne Alsace Pinot Gris 2000

A higher price in no way guarantees a better wine but it surely improves the odds. This 2000 Pino Grigio had an amber cast tremendous complex aroma and beautiful finish. — 11 years ago

Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go, beneath the sound of hope. 1979.

Had no right. Against all odds thus wine survived, and thrived, to become something magnificent.

What are the odds... 2 different wines made with Braucol in the same week. This is really pretty, aromatic and super fresh. Thanks Cynthia Sexton for the selection! — 13 years ago

Domaine Guiberteau

Saumur Cabernet Franc

It's got a lot of everything, and I can appreciate the potential, but this is a bit young for current drinking. The ripeness of fruit is a bit at odds with the green and funk flavors. I get the sense that it'll come together — 10 years ago

The Winery at La Grange

Harrison House Red

Dry and smooth. Balanced. This wine took me by surprise. La Grange included it in a wine tasting as a teaser for those of us who are not subscribed to their wine club ($200/quarter) While it makes sense that this is going to be their good wine, I was wowed by just how good this wine was. I had been fairly saturated from wine tasting that day, but this wine still spoke volumes to me. — 10 years ago

Domaine Faiveley (Joseph Faiveley)

Clos des Cortons Faiveley Monopole Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Brilliant Red Burgundy, with soft finish but powerful taste, at odds with a gentle nose. We drank with appetizers, before a steak dinner with a Cain Five. — 11 years ago

Michael Gill Cellars

Big Rock Syrah 2010

A deep color and full body – a beautiful marriage of terroir and Rhone character. This fruit bomb has aromas of cassis, dried cherries, cola, chocolate, and creamy vanilla hints of licorice, nutmeg and white pepper. There is an ever so slight teaser of smoke interspersed within its blackberry-bramble body. — 11 years ago

Michel Gahier

Les Crêts Arbois Chardonnay 2008

My mind has just been blown. Smells just like a really good champagne with some age on it. Slight oxidation seems like it should be at odds with the wonderful mineral tension and freshness, but it just . . . is. — 13 years ago

Molly's Cradle Wine

Molly May Shiraz 2013

Very fruity. Raspberries. Full bodied with soft tannins. Drink now. Another on the short list for the DC Red. Odds are the winner will be a Shiraz from either the Barossa or McLaren Vale. — 10 years ago

Királyudvar

Sec Tokaji Furmint 2012

totally reminded me of those teaser days at the orchard that felt like summer but smelled like fall:
Smelled like damp straw, hard apple cider and bourbon a little like cinnamon and ripe pear (the bartlett ones that turned yellow and soft, ugh). Tasted a little less like that (Although still fruity) but had more of a soft lemon thing then slightly dry with a touch of salt + basil (I swear to God) at the very very end and that's all i got. !!

2007 vintage. Started tight. No nose. Very golden color which seemed at odds with the youthfulness of the juice. Opening after 30 minutes. Iodine oyster shell notes. Arguably his best vineyard. Give it 3 years. — 11 years ago

This had the odds against it, lean vintage and "heat-affected" but was really good. Solid reflection of terroir. — 11 years ago
