Quinta Do Vesuvio 2008

One of those reds that manage to taste both big and light at the same time. J-M thinks of not too leathery Riojas and not too tannic Barbarescos — 8 years ago

@Peter van den Besselaar, the recent run of fine vintages in the Douro, even if all aren’t declared, seem to make LBV Portos maybe the greatest bargain since “sliced bread”, no???

Quinta do Ataíde Reserva Douro Touriga Nacional 2011

This is my first wine of this varietal. This is a big wine with bold jammy dark fruit and vanilla aromas, tongue coating tannins, and a lingering finish. Better on the second night. Probably best to decant to fully appreciate. — 8 years ago

Florao Quinta da Fonte Souto Branco 2021

2021 vintage. Quinta da Fonte Souto is the first project from the Symingtons outside the Douro region. A 207 hectares estate with a around 45 hectares od vineyards in a cooler climate ( 500 m alitude) than the Alentejo plains. Florão is the entry level. This 2021 is a blend of Arinto ( 80%) and Verdelho ( 20%). Attractive nose with fresh ripe pineapple, flowers and a hint of fresh mint. Crisp and juicy. Very good value. — 2 years ago

Altano Rewilding Edition Douro Red Blend 2019

I must say: I love, absolutely love, casual wine. There’s something about an inexpensive, above average, good tasting bottle of wine that just makes you feel mischievous after every sip; like you got away with it… if you like that feeling, try this. Plus, can’t beat that label. — 3 years ago

Quinta da Fonte Souto Arinto Verdelho 2019

Delicious. Is that the least or most useful tasting note? But this is. It’s is a rich dish that someone thought fit to squeeze a lemon on to brighten that dish up. The new oak is in play and probably the biggest factor, but the acid is there—somehow gently cutting through.
Something still keeps it from being transcendent but you are definitely going to desire a second glass.

@Shawn Thompson thank you! It’s true—you can give all the details but sometimes “delicious” is just the truth

Dow's

10 Year Old Tawny Porto

In 1912, Andrew James Symington became a partner in Dow's and today, five members of the fourth generation Symington family own and manage this historic house. 10 Years" indicates an average age – this Aged Tawny Port is a blend of older wines, matured in oak casts. Amber color with aromas of sweet dried fruits, citrus and nutty notes. On the palate sweet ripe fruit, vanilla oak, ending with fig and cacao notes. Smooth, Nice value. Tasting Sample. — 8 years ago
