Wow what an amazing blend of a sweet bourbon finish paired with a strong bourbon aroma right at the start of the sip. This wine is well priced for the great complexity of flavor. Anyone who enjoys whiskey or bourbon will be delighted with this one. — 5 years ago

Caymus Vineyards – Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Napa Valley, California – USA 🇺🇸
Overview
Special Selection is Caymus’ flagship bottling, the only wine to twice earn Wine Spectator’s “Wine of the Year.” The 2013 vintage comes from a benchmark Napa year—warm, consistent, and producing deeply concentrated fruit. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from prime valley-floor sites, this wine showcases the Caymus hallmark: bold, plush, and fruit-driven Napa opulence.
Aromas & Flavors
Opulent blackberries, cassis, and baked blueberries, wrapped in layers of cocoa, espresso, and toasted vanilla. Secondary notes of licorice, sweet tobacco, and graphite add depth. With time in the glass, hints of cedar and leather start to show, signaling the early stages of graceful evolution.
Mouthfeel
Full-bodied and richly textured, almost velvet-like, with powerful yet polished tannins. The 2013 vintage delivers intensity and weight, but with balance—long, lingering finish loaded with ripe dark fruit and spice.
Winemaking Notes
Meticulous cluster selection, long maceration for depth, and extended aging in new French oak barrels (18+ months). Chuck Wagner’s hallmark style: unapologetically ripe fruit, creamy oak integration, and a seamless, approachable structure even in youth.
Food Pairing
A natural match for grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, or herb-crusted lamb. For a more indulgent pairing, try it with aged Gouda or truffle-infused dishes.
Verdict
A monumental vintage of Caymus Special Selection—ripe, hedonistic, and still showing youthful vigor more than a decade later. Built for aging, yet already a crowd-pleaser. A benchmark expression of Napa Cabernet’s luxurious side.
Personal Pick Highlight
2013 stands out as one of Napa’s greatest modern vintages, and tasting it now is like catching Caymus in its prime sweet spot: power meeting polish. Cheers! — 8 months ago
The 2013 Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos, aged for 20 months in oak barrels, has a perfumed, honeyed bouquet with mango and yellow plum. It doesn't quite have the complexity of the 2014. The palate is well balanced with a pure entry, a keen line of acidity, orange zest-tinged honeyed fruit and nougat and hazelnut notes on the finish. The palate has a tad more complexity than the aromatics, but overall, it is very fine, if not the long-term prospect of other vintages. (Neal Martin, Vinous, April 2024)

Very fruity but not sickly sweet. Goes well with a meal but just as pleasant by itself. Would definitely buy again — 5 years ago
Sweet but sharp. Would be excellent with a sharp cheese and fruit — 6 years ago
Excelent for warm weathers. The chillest, the better. Sweet but not over indulging. Wonderful for paella or straight meat. Rib eye, new york, porterhouse. — 6 years ago
An English fortress built in the 13th Century, with its square tower, a design typical of the era, became a wine producing estate in 1643. From organically grown grapes, an estate that has never seen pesticides or artificial fertilizers (the previous owner was 104 years old when she died and never used them). Aromas of sweet rich stone fruits with citrus scents. On the palate peach and apricot flavors with orange nutty notes. Medium finish ending with a honey citrus character. Nice now. I really enjoyed this wine. It was the bottle that introduced me to wine drinking. A nice beginner one for me at least. — 10 months ago
Sweet, light body, apple cider accents, hint of fizz in the finish. — a year ago
Sweet but not cloying. Delightful on its own, or in a fancy negroni. Probably the best vermouth I’ve had (though I am not an aficionado!) — 4 years ago
One of my basic faves! Pretty sweet but tastes amazing with any sort of fresh fruit topped! — 5 years ago
Not too sweet. Has a decent weight and fullness. But some how not too dry. Yum — 6 years ago

Medium deep ruby , quite thin garnet ruby rim . Cassis , blueberry , blackberry , iris , pain grillé. On the palate this is quite dense and rounded , with more dark fruits , cassis , blackberry and a savoury , saline seaweed tinge on the finish . Fine but noticable , sweet tannins , and fresh acidity , quite rounded and richly fruited but very balanced . Good length with grafite , mineral and creme de cassis . Polished and quite decadent but all elements very balanced . Just drinkable now with time in decanter , really fruit driven still, but will improve well over the next 10 or more years and last well a further 10-15 . This shows some of the ripeness and exuberance of 2009 paired with the flamboyance of Mouton , makes for quite a pairing a very promising future ahead. — 8 months ago
