Stone House Urban Winery

Domaine Romain Collet

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2014

Opening up with a sweet sweet Meyer lemon and citrus zest from orange and lemon. As the glass warms, a fun funk of moldy cheese emerges along with some cinnamon. Warming further we see smoke, salt, limestone and granite.
The first sip of this is a roller coaster. Oddly enough fruit is the first thing across the tongue, followed hand in hand by a bright creamy smooth acidity ripe with gritty stones and finishing with a sharp, fresh, lemon juice. It has this dynamic tension, vibrating and singing with stinging stone. I haven't before seen minerals driven like this. A fun and playful pairing to all those stinky cheeses or mushrooms you surely paired along with it since no one in the house eats seafood. ;)

Domaine Duclaux (Famille Quiot)

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2009

This is prime juice right now. Fresh fruit at it's finest. House of the pope indeed this is godly syrah and grenache blended to a creamy, stone, leathered smoky roasted pepper and dark fruit. Two thumbs way up. — 11 years ago

Benvenuto de la Serna

Valle de Uco Malbec 2010

Delicious malbec for a very reasonable price. My new go to. I'm a geologist, so the stone in the label makes it even better as an every day wine to keep at the house. — 11 years ago

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin

Yellow Label Brut Champagne Blend

Tasted a small bottle-375ml. A Champagne House is usually judged on the quality of its Brut NV. Pinot Noir provides the structure, typical Clicquot, touch of Pinot Meunier adds roundness and Chardonnay adds elegance. Light golden color with complex aromas of stone and citrus fruits and creamy biscuit. Tiny bubbles, light mousse, flavors of apple and citrus, with raspberry, well balanced structure. The finish has plenty of toasty nutty yeast, clean and elegant on the long ending. Small bottle was very fresh. — 9 years ago

Bernard Bremont

Millésimé Grand Cru Ambonnay Brut Champagne Blend 2006

From the Champagne house of Bernard Brémont, this champagne is made from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Pale straw, tiny bubbles and fine mousse that lasted to bottle end. Aromas of crisp stone fruit and biscuit. The palate shows green apple, peach and citrus notes. Lively acidity on this well balanced wine that had good length on the finish leaving with minerality and yeasty notes. Nice quality. — 10 years ago

A little funky, that didn't hurt this wine though. Nice citrus and stone fruit that's carried along by wonderfully integrated acidity. — 11 years ago

Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 1985

Wine of the flight at learnaboutwine's (now wineLA) Top Wines tasting - House of Blues. Color: Grenache/brick NOSE: Amazing bouquet of tomato paste, olive tapenade, herb, stone, ((did not need to taste to love)) MOUTH: textured, refined, fresh, amazingly balanced and reminiscent of the legendary 1985 with perhaps a nudge of newer wood. Score 98 points (N2self - one of my greatest bottles this year) — 12 years ago

Bodegas Alto Moncayo

Veraton Garnacha

Crushed velvety leaves from alpine flowers. A wondrous bouquet of a nose, and floral in the right way, not your grandmothers bathroom kind of a way.

Seemed fitting to picture this with our urban garlic harvest. As garlic take such a long time to mature, then even after picked, must be stored properly, to get the fullness of flavor.

Sweet blackberry tar is what this well crafted wine shows up front, subtle mint, eucalyptus, river stone. A perfect tango of tannins and acids, complete with the heel in the air - or maybe that’s my heel, enjoying this wine completely.
Decanted for the usual 3-4 hours.

Moët & Chandon

Impérial Brut Champagne Blend

Largest Champagne house in France, founded in 1743 by Claude Moët. Light Golden yellow with a bouquet of stone fruits with citrus notes and yeasty tones. Plenty of bubbles dancing in the flute. From about 200 crus this cuvèe is blended from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Complex fruit, apple and pear flavors, nutty tones and minerality bring this bubbly to a lingering finish ending with a distinctive chalky taste from the soil and some toasty notes. A Favorite! — 9 years ago

unique for mourvedre, for all mourvedre, not just Cali. it's amazing. unique indeed, maybe due to the native fermentation of the house, but unlike anything you could possibly ever find. stone fruit and blood orange citrus upon opening; too reminiscent of white wine. then, guess what, it changes dramatically and evolves beautifully. cranberry and grapefruit acidity; much more savory after it's been exposed to oxygen for a few hours or days. this wine is a flavorite of mine from La Clarine. — 11 years ago

Vendimia Rioja Viura 2010

Excellently balanced. Acid and salinity make immediate pallet cleanse, Golden fruit, dried grass, white flower, wet stone, lime pith & zest, most appropriate use of oak. Long finish. Oak has some dark & sweet qualities, which remind me of bourbon. Making this a staple in my house. Sexy Spanish White Wine. — 12 years ago
