The best Pouilly-Fumé I've ever tasted—the 2007 Silex was indeed a special bottle, the last vintage Dagueneau crafted before a crash in an ultralight plane cut his life and career short. Full and nuanced without being weighty, ever changing and evolving in the glass. Lemon curd, apple blossom, dried honey, and dried apricots. In the mouth the profile is reminiscent of a still Champagne, with toast and and lees comingling with candied pink grapefruit, dried thyme and a flourish of smoky minerality on the finish. — 9 years ago

The first thing that strikes, being the most striking thing, is the almost water-like clear and completely see through color of this Marsanne. Yellow and white flower nose. On the palate, lychee and peach, pear, honeysuckle, orange and nectarine entertain, but all of this, mind you, with a vicious acidity. Last of the HJW sampling. Again a great American example of the varietal. In this wine you really get the "place" aspect of the wine. Less fruity more earthy. So last night we fired up the BBQ for some lemon thyme chicken so I grabbed this Mike Weir 2011 Crash Rosé from the off-site cellar. The color is a blush orange with hints of pink. The nose was soft and flavors included strawberry. The winemaker's note indicate that it's 100% Cab Franc, an unusual rosé to be sure. Enjoyable though! — 11 years ago

This wine reminds me of a deep sea adventure. I'm being swept away on boat of flavors and smells like an ocean breeze of ripe apples and currant. 1996 vintage. Chambertin grand Cru. The nose exudes floral, perfume notes - candied stewed red plum and raspberry. The leather tan notes from the ageing and oak are attractive and subtle. On the palate, more of a wild strawberry note - the fruit is still very much there. Acidity is bright and present. The tannins are very tight grained and chewy. The finish is long, but there is a drying finish. I do think there are some failings here. The mid palate has a lack of flesh, and there is a slight lack of texture that I was hoping for. Overall, the nose outperforms the palate. Nonetheless, a great find. NB: drink within 1 hour of opening or risk crash and burn. — 11 years ago
