Had this 1year ago. Founded in 1979 by John Shafer, went from riding trains in Chicago to riding a TD-9 tractor in Napa. Blend of 56%Merlot, 28%Cab Sauv & 16%Malbec, aged for 20 mos French oak, despite 15.3% ABV, it’s well balanced. Wonderful berry fruit aromas, flavors of cherry, jammy blackberry and rasp with notes of cacao and sweet herbs. Lingering finish ending with earthy mineral. Had this with a USDA prime Fillet. Drink now & over next few years, any longer the wine will lose vibrant quality. Nice! — 7 years ago

Delicious from first pour. Dinner at home 10/28 with Tile Fish over toasted orzo, side of kale and sautéed tomatoes. — 10 years ago
Had this Aligoté from Bouzeron couple of months ago and was impressed. Revisited last night, same result, fucking love this, and why wouldn't it be awesome with neighboring villages of Puligny and Chassagne-Montrachet. I'll throw $28 at this all day. — 10 years ago
One of my absolute favorite wine cellars. Not a Merlot or Malbec lover but with 28% cab Sauvignon and 35% cab franc it is light and beautiful - almost like a Pinot. — 6 years ago

Deep ruby color. Expressive nose of blackberries, blackcurrant, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Juicy dark fruit on the palate with oak spice and nice tannic texture. Probably drinking near or at its peak right now. Blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petite Verdot with 80% of the fruit coming from the To Kalon Vineyard. Aged 28 months in 55% new French oak. — 9 years ago
GW tasting 9/28/16. Magnum. Nose with less fruit and more oxidative sherry notes that are pleasant. Palate that's very balanced with acids and minerals. Looking complex finish. Excellent. Color that's a bit brownish. — 10 years ago

On the nose, dark minerals, muted dark currants, fresh & dry dark florals, violets, dark cherries, strawberries and red licorice. On the palate; ripe bright fruits on first entry, lean & soft tannin structure, dry crushed rock powder, volcanic minerals, notes of a woody quality, leather & underbrush. Lean & ripe; dark cherries, cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, raspberries, touch of graphite, nice acidity, good structure with a beautiful, long finish. Barrel tasted the 2016 vintage at the Nickel & Nickel Entrecôte. Photos of look as you walk up out of their cellar and the old Nickel & Nickel truck. I'm not a vintage car expert but it looks like it comes from the later 1920's — 9 years ago

2012 Vintage. 42% Syrah, 28% Petit Verdot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Grenache. Sounds like a strange blend, but man was this happening. Opened as our second 2012 for the Zoom tasting. Knocked our socks off! — 6 years ago
