Light & mid red fruits, smoke, grilled meats & dry red roses on the nose. The fruits are; dark cherries, cherries, cooked strawberries, dry cranberries, black cherry cola, reductive pomegranate, grilled meats, smoke, baking spices (vanilla & nutmeg), brown crushed volcanic rocks, dry roses, light oak, nice acidity and an elegant swirl of all of the above on the long beautiful finish. Nice work Toby. For those reading, a Pinot to acquire and a winery to follow going forward. Great pair with pork loin w/ fruit. https://www.google.com/amp/s/johnonwine.com/2015/06/11/spotlight-winery-phillips-hill-winery/amp/

Take your pick, @Delectable Wine ! All were brilliant, although the younger Bourgogne and Cote Rotie took the spotlight. Brilliant wines top to bottom. — 10 years ago

Strega is an interesting Italian liqueur...better described below. I only sporadically enjoy it, but it's fun and tasty at each sip.
"Strega is an herbal, saffron-infused liqueur deeply tied to the secret world of witchcraft. Witches are said to convene in Benevento to perform rituals and honor Il Noce, the sacred walnut tree. (The lower part of the logo shows witches dancing with demons around Il Noce.) According to legend, Giuseppe Alberti, son of a grocer, saved a witch from falling out of a tree in the woods. In gratitude, she gave him the recipe for an elixir, which the Alberti family began selling in 1860, perhaps as a curative or restorative.
The liqueur's proprietary recipe is a mix of 70 herbs and spices which include Ceylon cinnamon, Florentine iris, Italian Apennine juniper, Samnite mint, fennel, and saffron. Saffron is the key to Strega's signature yellow color and it shares the spotlight with mint and juniper as the most pronounced flavors within the herbal mixture." — 7 years ago
At first, dark berries & black currants took center stage, but as it got some air, forest floor, cedar, and fresh tobacco made its way into the spotlight. Layers of smooth, silky texture coated the mouth, and the bold, well-integrated tannins simply gave it depth along with a solid acidic backbone. It was stunning and didn't even give a hint of oxidation after being open for 3+ hours. What a treat for NYE. — 8 years ago

Really excited to see what happens here. Some nature-esq funk to the supple fruit, a fine frame of structure that shows why Merlot can be gorgeous in spotlight. There is a resonance to this wine that I've not encountered in so many Bordeaux, it feels complete and drinkable now but I'd love to see it develop, — 8 years ago
Loved this pinot. So rich and smelled amazing — 8 years ago
This was the last wine of the day it came after Burgundy, Bordeaux , Syrah, Cab franc , Eiswein, Auslese and somehow this erased them from my palate memory. In this case Muller was not a winemaker but a magician. He managed to make every attribute contained in this wine stand up and shout but never allowed a single component to hog the spotlight. If I got rid of all my wine except this would I be unhappy?, honestly I have to think about it. — 9 years ago
If Jennifer Garner were a Cru Beaujolais, she would be Marcel Lapierre. Quiet yet powerful. Sturdy yet pretty and graceful. Like a subtle perfume this wine reveals violets, plums and powder. And like Jennifer Garner, just because she isn't always in the obvious spotlight doesn't mean she isn't a true star. — 10 years ago

Sangiovese in the spotlight. Cabernet is evident primarily on the palate lending structural support. Seamless blend. Lovely. — 10 years ago
