Dark cherries, a little tar, spicebox, coffee grounds and dark chocolate. — 9 years ago
This was a very satisfying bottle, perhaps even out of proportion to where it stands as a matter of raw "quality" or however you want to put it. It's a firmly old-style Bordeaux, with a profile of red orchard fruits, old wood and spicebox, and unapologetically astringent tannins that don't really relax until it gets a chance to warm up from cellar temperature. It is still young, probably a decade from its zone, but there is something about it that reaches really far back and reminds me of some of the antique early 20C Bordeaux I've had. It's not that it tastes advanced, but it's in the style, like a young man wearing a vintage wardrobe, and I can easily imagine it getting to a similar state one of these days. It's still got plenty of density and seve at the core so I see a firm constitution here. The chateau's reputation was in the doldrums in this period although this wine was reasonably well-reviewed. At this point it's an unqualified success. I paid $25 for this, this year! — 9 years ago
lovely grenache, spicebox with a pretty hint of violet and Hermes silk finish. the restaurants wine list price of $95 is so fair!! had the cured fluke appy and the pan roasted chicken main and wine was yummy with both! — 10 years ago
I've had this a few times now. I love gamay. Americans don't quite appreciate gamay because of the acidity. It's made for food, period. This Forez is great. Cranberry, cherry, spicebox and herbs. It's fresh and it gets your palette ready for things like lamb, coq au cin, and wash-rind cheese. — 10 years ago
Wow. Blackberry, spicebox, white pepper. Full-bodied. A rich, lush, 30-second finish. Massive. A tour de force. — 9 years ago
Ripe dark cherries and spicebox nose w underbrush/wet earth funk. Plenty of ripeness and semi cola vibe and more wet barnyard on the palate. Nicely integrated tannins, good acidity on the finish though length could be longer. Really nice — 9 years ago
Complexity reigns supreme. Blackberry, smoked meat and spicebox cling to the palate. The legs are strong, the body is huge. This is massive and built to age. Can't wait to try in 5 or even 10 years. — 9 years ago
Drinking beautifully...classic strawberry and cedar aromas with a seamless berry, cocoa, and spicebox palate...velvety tannins on a lengthy finish. — 10 years ago
2005 vintage. Complex nose - musk, sweaty sock, Spicebox, tree bark. Very memorable.
Mouth - mid bodied, light cherry / cranberry fruit with an element of savory bitterness. Slightly addictive. Has hints of the Burgundian magic event in this village cuvée. Recommended. — 10 years ago
Browning on the edge, also in the nose. Forestfloor, toasty oak, brambly fruit, spicebox. Soft mouthfeel, fine acidity, palate is a tad too oaky... Great nose, good wine. — 11 years ago
Rainy day wine while braising pork shoulder. Sensual and elegant expression of zin. Floral, spicebox, cracked black pepper, powdered sugar, raspberry jam, cooked cranberries, cherry compote, sweet wood. Juicy and rich fruits balanced by fresh acid and fine tannins. Perhaps making it up but I feel like there is a sand-like mineral taste/texture to the wine, like getting sand in your mouth at the beach but more delicious. Fantastic juice that is balanced and ethereal. Own-rooted, silica based sands, planted in 1915. — 9 years ago

Subtler than the Sizeranne, this single vineyard from one of the most prized areas of Hermitage offers light blueberry fruit, spicebox, rolled cigar, cedar, sawdust, and good integration with its alcohol. Lovely. — 9 years ago
