2nd time around the bend with this one. Gorgeous perfumed nose. Roses. Berry fruit and mega cherries. Super earthy and mineral. So expansive. Honeyed, riper golden/copper expression of Erbaluce. Likely representative of this Alto Piemonte DOC, but the bottle age had a big influence on this wine. We've had a neighboring young Erbaluce from Boca (Barbaglia) that was a completely different animal. Still, the acid is there in this 2012, and it balances the tropical notes beautifully. — 8 years ago

The 2019 Barolo Cerretta marries power and vibrancy to great effect. Pressed dried flowers, iron, white pepper, smoke and blood orange lift a core of bright red-toned fruit. Lively acids and incisive tannins give the wine its overall feel. This is a gorgeous and super promising wine from Sergio Germano. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Young Silvia Barbaglia makes fantastic wines in this tiny Northern Piemonte DOC. Boca is a blend from Nebbiolo and Vespolina. This 2006 has aged beautifully and smells like Nebbiolo dried roses, intertwined with Vespolina violets. Elegant and profound, perfectly balanced and very good length. Nose is cherry flower, as this opens some savoriness. Some old Nebbiolo character. Some sweet wood.

Palate is a bit tight. Super elegant cherries. Some bitterness. Very silky. As this opens more sweet cherry fruit. Elegant richness.

Sipping Fine Wine

Sergio Zenato and his wife Carla began to produce quality wines from an indigenous varietal, Trebbiano di Lugana, and passed down through the generations. A blend of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta and Croatina. Medium Ruby with aromas of dried berry fruits, sweet and smoky notes with pleasant herb spice. On the palate flavors of ripe currants and sweet blackberries with cacao, spice, oak and nutty tones. Fine tannins, long complex finish ending slightly creamy with cedar notes. Starting to drink well now, enjoy over next 4-5 years. — 5 years ago

Stunning nose. What a set of wines Silvia has sent me. Nose is like a mash of intense raspberry confit, dark red roses, violets, lavender, some dark berry fruits and even some plum as well. Palate is juicy and also very tannic. Good cherry and berry fruit but fierce tannins so far. But backed up by superb dense, concentrated fruit and just terrific purity and length. Amazing Vespolina. Awesome texture but needs maybe 3-4 years for those tannins to integrate more. Nice and long. Truly a toothsome wine. — 5 years ago
