Just right, balanced and a medium length finish. — 6 years ago
Jammy dark currants and cassis, plum concentrate, juicy raspberry, licorice, game, sanguine, and balsamic vinegar. Tart on palate, highly acidic with smooth integrated tannins. 13.5%. Great value for the price. Not rustic at all. — 6 years ago
Great Cali pinot! Orange Zest and Brass set this one apart. Brass/sanguine minerality. Solid, wish it was stored better. — 5 years ago
Bright garnet, orange rim variation. Dark cherries, prunes, baking spices, vanilla, leather. Nice soft acidity, red cherries, dried herbs, a little sanguine at first. Mellowed out in the glass. — 6 years ago
An incredibly expressive and terroir-driven wine that might be one of the world’s best wine values. Volcanic microclimate shines clearly through a heady nose whose first bite is not just smoke but...smoking volcano. Along that sweet dark fruit, grilled lavender, flowers. In the palate more primary with black cherries (grilled black cherries???) exotic spices, cooked black pepper, bay leaf, sage, that sanguine element that screamed high-iron volcanic soil, all held together by a very sitinctive salty spine. Finishes with a long note of those herbs and some drying tannins. Very juicy but with good structure and medium acidity avoiding any sense of being cloying. A really unique, transparent and well made wine that is an astounding value. I wonder whether it improves with age or is at its best here... — 6 years ago
High toned raspberry, black cherry and wild berry fruit, leather, sandalwood, dark rose, a little bit of a sanguine note, tarragon black tea, and dominant undercurrent of musk and earth framing it all. Seems to have that halfway chambolle to Gevrey thing. Not particularly long but lots of interest.
Good big body and acidity but still with very aggressive tannins. Really only came Into its own day 2. A broad shouldered wine, and a definite hold m — 6 years ago
A mild earthy, sanguine note, that is masked by sweet, big red brambly fruit with slight floral notes. Medium acid, good tannins. Cranberry, red apple skins with dirt and tar finish. — 7 years ago
My bottle of choice for a northern Rhône themed tasting with the WNH.
Knowing this is young for La Chapelle, I double decanted this for a little over two hours before my first sip. Talk about a brick wall. Both aromatically and on the palate, this was not giving at all. At the three hour mark, clove, licorice and all spice showed up on the nose alongside tart rhubarb and a sanguine character on the palate. Both sadly (and thankfully), at hour five in the decanter, this was like a boxer who had been lulling me to sleep with body shots and then suddenly started taking hook shots to the face. Hello! This really flexed its muscles when paired with bolognese. The wine gained a floral/violet/potpourri nose with a touch of black pepper and herbs de Provence. The weight and density bulked up and it channeled a touch of meat and pepper, tar, black cherries and underripe blackberries. Acidity was energetic throughout the evening and the tannins increased by the last glass.
If opening now, I’d decant at least 4+hrs, or hold off another 5-7yrs. — 5 years ago

Wow—extraordinary vintage, and peaking or just past peak here. Earthy, almost gamey white truffle / sanguine meat note cut by vibrant, sweet cassis and blackberry. Tannins and acidity dialed way back, with all savory, secondary notes on palate: underbrush, tobacco, leather, spice — 5 years ago
