San Martino A Selvoli

Francesco Boschis

Sori San Martino Dogliani Superiore Dolcetto 2019

Deep purple in color (I can only see light through the edges of the glass); cassis, black cherries, and graphite on the nose; medium acidity; high tannins; tastes like raspberries, blackberries, hibiscus, wet gravel, and a hint of black pepper with a long fruity finish. I love this wine. Nellie doesn't Iike it. — a month ago

Notte a San Martino Merlot

Spicy yet surprisingly fruit forward for an Italian merlot! Acidity of blueberry across the finish. A bit expensive but delicious and age worthy. — 5 years ago

Vigne di San Martino Gavi Cortese 2016

Lovely expression, concentrated fruit of pear, yellow apple, pineapple, and apricot, with bracing acid and a medium plus body. Sip or with food, a true delight — 6 years ago

Villa Cafaggio

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2018

Basilica Caffaggio is one of the more famous producers located in the Western Sector of Chianti Classico’s Panzano UGA; specifically the middle elevation band of San Martino in Cecione (approx. 300m elevation). The geology is largely shale.

Popped and poured. The 2018 Caffaggio Chianti Classico pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core and a slightly watery rim; medium viscosity. No obvious staining of the tears and no signs of particles or gas. On the nose, the wine is intense. Funky cherry, red flowers, dried earth, bergamot, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry and structure is medium+ across the board. The fruits and non-fruits are confirmed with loads of minerals; there is a long savory finish. A very nice Chianti Classico that fits the bill. Drink now or over the next 10 years.

Cascina Roera

San Martino Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2013

Quite nice and good to try a Barbera with some good age. Probably too much fruit for me - quite exuberant even at this stage. With some air this comes into balance more, nice wine. — 4 years ago

Kamai Aglianico del Vulture 2013

Cherries, raspberries, strawberries, pepper, earth, tobacco, and oak. Very focused and balanced, especially for a wine from a warm region. — 6 years ago
