Big Sky Cuvée Merlot Blend 2013

An always impressive effort, this Bordeaux style blend never disappoints. This vintage is par for the course- a big wine, with thick chewy tannins and rich mocha cherry flavors. The lingering finish is lice aniseed pop rocks on the tongue. — 9 years ago

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

When you have to travel on a Sunday, and that Sunday happens to be Mother's Day, you're not exactly psyched. This little oasis in the Delta Sky Club afforded me the opportunity to smile. Not a bad pour, regardless of the price. Typical Lynch-Bages cigar tobacco and leather with some luscious and velvety black fruit. Finished a little flat, most likely due to being open for a while in the fancy automated pour gizmo. But still smiling! — 9 years ago

1982 Lafite living up to its reputation. Elegance amid concentrated fruit, with the requisite tobacco, cedar, and lead pencil notes everyone said are supposed to be there. The real deal, benchmark Bordeaux, benchmark wine... — 12 years ago

Juicy red berries, eucalyptus, intense floral notes. Super funky, but yet so balanced. Playful. Like butterfies in your belly, it’s like a crazy romance. One of the best I drank in 2017! — 9 years ago

Big tannins and roses, with some cherry. Recalls whiskey! Enjoyed it very much even though the person in line at my local wine shop said "oh, 2012 vintage...it's fine, just a bit, understated." — 9 years ago

I don't want to write a Facebook story but I need to get something off my chest - today was supposed to be about running my first 10k which I did and did my best - but today became much more - I lost my mom Friday in a car wreck - yes it was tragic for she was 79 years young - but she was an incredible mom - strong caring and always a big part of my growing up and values I have - I will miss her - all that said I dedicated the 10k race I ran to my mom - and I celebrate this wine and the next wine to her and the wonderful legacy (our family) she help create - rest in peace mom and thanks for the support from @Ron R @Martin G Rivard @David A Lentine @Joe Lucca and @Carl Fischer - by the wine was a wonderful tribute and had all four elements working correctly together - smell, taste, finish and balance — 10 years ago

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1954

With a 2" depressed cork and questionable fill, we were all hesitant with our expectations, to say the least. Let me be clear: this wine was beautiful. Such an experience to taste a 61 year old wine that still has life in it. Liquid music, poetry you can taste, or whatever artistic production you want to draw upon, this wine was as captivating as a live performance. This was light garnet in color without any brown, with open aromas of soy sauce, cranberry jam, truffle, potting soil, dried prune, green tea, and black coffee, the wine's structure said Here, let me show you these flavors, like a welcoming dinner party host who isn't over-trodden about anything that just puts you at ease. Wines like this are art in a bottle. — 11 years ago

What a treat. From the company to the antics of the cork removal, all was fantastic. Not surprised with some immediate mustiness on the nose, giving way to a rich but smooth aged blue cheese, mushrooms, soy sauce, earth, and just a faint hint of dried red fruit. Over the next 20 minutes the glass development was out of control, changing with each and every whiff and sip. Earthy umami, oxidative, and and slightly stewed reds to begin quickly opened to nice dried strawberries on the palate and nose, and advancing to moderately subdued ripened strawberries and cranberries- after 61 years and still kickin with fruit! Amazing. Then after about 20 minutes of rapid metamorphosis, it gave in and decided to fade to a very pleasant sipper...awesome.

Halfway through my work conference here in San Francisco, and we wanted to make our way to the piers for dinner one night and get some prime seafood. I’m with 3 co-workers who know nothing about wine, so I ordered this. Every single person tasted and said “holy smokes, I didn’t know white wine could taste this good”. Merry Edwards SB is a crowd pleaser. Not a massive citrus bomb, with flavorful savory notes of wet rock and limestone. Perfect for seafood. 👌 — 9 years ago

Mount Pleasant Wines

Maurice O'Shea Hunter Valley Shiraz 2000

Certainly has the Hunter DNA even though Head Winemaker Jim Chatto said Mt Pleasant spent much of the 2000s trying to make a ripe South Australian style (see my 2005 note). Medium bodied earthy savoury and minerally. From vines planted in 1880. Another great vintage for OShea. — 10 years ago

This wine is chocolate syrup, and fun to drink on its own. However, i think it's way too extracted and rich for most food. Not my thing, but delivers hard for those who like this kibd of wine. Parker said this would age 20+ years... My bottle started to fall apart within 90 minutes though. I say drink it now. — 12 years ago
