High Level Chianti Rufina! Complex and long finale, but velvet, smooth tannins. Toasted wood, tobacco - all subtle but very present!! Fruit notes like lingonberry…

Bouquet of black cherry, leather, spice, and blackberry. High acidity, medium body with smooth tannins. — 8 years ago
Very Old World in style. Nose has striking crushed rock minerality and ripe/tart deep cherry fruit. Little hint of pine forest. Pure and mouthfilling cherry and mineral flavors are jolted with zippy acids. Medium body. Although Carignane is mostly known as a French varietal, this really gives off Italian vibes, like a mixture of a Dolcetto and a Chianti Rufina. Really good. — 9 years ago
2009 was better. — 10 years ago
Cannot believe Delectable found this wine!! Hats off! This amazing Vin Santo is made by very very small coop in Rufina. I enjoyed it last week after having dinner with the family who made it in the small farmhouse in chianti. — 10 years ago

This was a random bottle from the cellar on normal a Thursday night paired with a simple bowl of Mezzi Rigatoni and Marinara. I know very little about this Biodynamic estate but with Dressner as the importer, it has my attention. It appears to be declassified Chianti Rufina.
Popped and poured; consumed over several hours. In the glass, deep ruby with a translucent core and slightly browning edges, possibly indicating its near 11 years of age. Medium viscosity. On the nose, stewed black berries and black cherries, some VA, old leather bound books and dusty earth with medium+ intensity. On the palate, a rather powerful cherry red rope licorice character dominates accompanied by mushrooms, dried herbs and a bitterness that reminded me of walnuts. Medium tannins which seem completely integrated at this point. The acid seems to be on the higher end of the scale yet, the wine remains fairly balanced since it’s so well endowed with fruit. Medium+ finish.
I gotta say, I’m really digging this wine. It was fun on its own and worked really well with food. If this bottle is an indicator of the estate’s style and quality then I am definitely looking forward to experiencing more. Drinking very well now so no need to hold longer.
