Wow! Never thought a Spanish wine with an Italian name would kick every French wine’s ass 😉 Truly remarkable, not just for its age, but one of the best reds I’ve had! — 7 years ago
Clear rich Crimson in colour. Whiff of wood varnish which blew off. Spicy - not as much pepper as usual. Cherries and supple savoury tannins. Medium bodied. One of my favourite Aussie Reds in the $20 to $30 category. 2nd ranked cuvée to their much vaunted "Langi" Shiraz. Tasted again 54 weeks later with totally consistent notes. Tasted beside Salo Syrah, from the much vaunted Hawkes Bay NZ District for Syrah. I preferred the Langhi. — 7 years ago
Lunch with my LilMan!
Love this RED & I never like reds. Perfect with our Italian lunch! — 8 years ago
Picked this wine not having much context than the region producing nice reds. Did not regret my house as it went well with Hudson Valley water buffalo — 8 years ago
Dry with a woody nose and dried cherry notes. Feels like a winter wine, like it should be sipped in a ski lodge. Very easy to drink on its own if you like dry reds, but it was great with pork and roasted veggies. — 8 years ago
One of our house reds — 9 years ago
Smoked cherry jam, add to new fav summer reds — 9 years ago
Wonderful blend. Very easy to drink and reasonably priced. Definitely one of my "go to" reds! — 9 years ago
Wednesday Wine Committee and what a fantastic line-up by John! Typical format of 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind.
Quite fruit forward at first which made me wonder domestic, but lovely yeasty notes and persistent bubbles led me to France. Very nice. — 6 years ago
Patrick and Cece brought this. A Spanish red. None of the iky tannen taste I don't like about reds. Earthy. Tangy. Tart? Pretty good actually. — 7 years ago
Ok, so they call this a Shiraz, but I did not see Shiraz on the label. Not a big deal. Haha. If you like Coppola wines at all their different price points, you will love this one. Lighter than some reds, but that's what ya need sometimes, no? 😉 — 8 years ago
1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia. Second set of reds we tried at house dinner w A&C BG and MR&GR. This wine we tried alongside the '01 Dalla Valle Maya. This wine is gorgeous, but much bigger and muscular than the Maya. We always love this wine. — 8 years ago
A rare example of a good FLX Pinot. Very different from France or Oregon though. Nice cherry undertones with a light smokey and nut finish. One of the better producers of reds on Seneca Lake shows why they know how to maximize the potential of this region. Their other refs are also worth trying too. — 9 years ago
One of the best reds I have ever had. Not overly sweet. — 9 years ago
Really lovely surprise. It's another wine that is great for cooking and for a glass with dinner. Definitely let it aerate before using for either. — 9 years ago
Wonderful mix of Flavors. One of my favorite reds. — 11 years ago
Daniel brought to us. Sweeter than most reds. Easy to drink. Cheap — 6 years ago
During the month of January, the Wednesday Wine Committee has a unique format...the sparkler, whites and dessert wines can be from any vintage and any location, but the reds must be from the 2007 vintage. It was my first time providing a wine for a lunch, so I was excited to see how it showed. As always, all wines were served blind.
My guess here was Zinfandel. Not jammy or overly hot in any way. Lots of spice and black pepper. Fruit was mainly red and black (no shade of purple in the glass). Fair bit of sediment. I love older zins. — 6 years ago
Notes of mulberry - even without new oak it somehow has the Penfolds DNA of chocolate malt. Brambley savoury notes. Great to have a Penfolds red with no new oak just for a change. Still with a long future as with 90% of Penfolds Reds. Amazing to think that decades ago Penfolds released Grange and St. Henri at the same price. — 7 years ago
Blend of reds that is smooth and nice for inexpensive wine. Nice — 7 years ago
@Bob Miller ....hubs brought this home and I have been digging his Spanish Reds this summer....nice pick baby!!! — 8 years ago
Had to aerate for 10 minutes only for the woody stinkiness to disappear.
Brownish ruby red.
Prunes, raisins, maybe overripe strawberries on the nose, next to cognac, black pepper.
On the palate, it's pretty intense: Rather watery than viscous, sweet on attack and finish, low tannin, distinct licorice on mid-palate, acidity neither firm nor flabby.
Medium-short finish, but the mild tannin lingers for quite a while.
Might be time to drink up, for this is pretty ripe already. I wouldn't want this to disintegrate more. Fun to drink. I'm happy to notice that, while I like this mature thing, I really also want to drink younger reds with a more velvety texture and firmer tannin and taste profiles.

Part 2 of a Mother's Day trio of delicious reds. Smooth, full and delicious with a near perfect blend of vanilla and spice. — 9 years ago
One of my absolute favorite reds! — 10 years ago
Very good. We're fans of this brand and their reds. — 11 years ago
Pretty robust Montepulciano and nice finish for the price. One of our fav Italian reds for everyday. — 12 years ago

Most guessed left bank Bordeaux here. It seemed the least “Cali” out of the 4 reds...not leathery, but more plum than red, black or blue fruit. Very balanced in terms of sweet fruit vs savory herbal/earthy components. — 6 years ago
