Does not have the energy and the range of the 2010 and the completeness of the 2016. It does not have the magic of Bartolo, the class of Oddero, and the clarity and transparency of Roagna, but if you delight in delicate refinement, there is nothing like Cavalotto. — 3 years ago
Nobody does it like Roagna. This approaches almost a masterpiece category and is done without the help of a strong year. What sets Roagna apart from everyone else, is their quality of acids, not just in the intensity but in their breadth, consistency and dimension. The minerality is cool and dark, and the tannic support is substantial without being obviously grippy or dusty. — 4 years ago
The 96' Riserva Pira had my nose stuck in the glass the whole time. I just couldn't get enough of the incredible bouquet. Even the tail ends were intoxicating. Ahhh!!! Full-on rose petals, violet, plums, dried cherries, blueberries, tar, spices (cinnamon and clove especially), undergrowth, tabacco leaf, and balsamic tones. So complex and lifted. It's just ahhh and ahhhhhhhh again and again as this wine bombarded the olfacotry system. On the other hand, the palate was quite stubborn at the start, but eventually gave way to some sweet fruit notes of fresh cherries and plums, plus hints of stoney minerality at the end. It's thick and dense, with firm but well-honed tannins and ample acidity. So fresh and young that it just begs for time, but how can one resist the beautiful smells right now. Probably the best nebbiolo I've had in a while. — 5 years ago
Unreal that I have not tried Italian whites with this complexity before. Major gap in wine appreciation. This is deceptively hot on the nose, but on tasting it's a medium to full with bracing back acidity. Smells of pineapple and kiwi, but the mouth is all quince pucker and yellow fruit. Just amazing with a fatty flavorful fish or roast chicken — 7 years ago
Wow. The 2017 Pajé from Roagna may be my wine of the (2023) year. Clear brick, almost tea colored. Chocolate, spice, menthol on the nose. Big mouth feel for a wine that doesn’t look or smell substantial or forward. Minerals, hints of red berry, tobacco, subtle tannins. Better with air. Nuanced, layered. Wonderful. — 5 months ago
2022/9/23 with fresh porcini risotto and omelette. If compared to the effusive and universal praise for this wine (including that it was yet to close up), this could be said to be slightly underwhelming. Delicious to be sure, with tangy acidity and floral and earthy aromas, but the fruit seemed to be hiding a bit, both on the nose and the mid palate. Perhaps it is in fact a bit closed - it seemed to be hinting at opening after several hours but didn’t quite get there on this evening, and these bites reflect that context specifically - it could be a different story with more age, or just a different bottle. — 2 years ago
There is not enough lively acidities and tannic grip to provide support, texture and definition for the aromas that are dominated now by old wood and lack detail and focus. Some people like its relaxed, unforced style but the winemaking is not as accomplished as those from Roagna, Cavallotto and Oddero. After 24 hours, the aroma dissipates to reveal the tertiary notes and the tannins come forward. — 4 years ago
There is a slight misalignment between the fruit and phenolic ripeness, also a mismatch between the oak and the terroir, but it is still an authentic, genuine Langhe Nebbiolo. Wide range of aromatic nuances and dynamic expression with authority. Less polished than Roagna and less subtle than Cascina delle Rose but those three are of similar mold. A relaxed style of winemaking that is complete opposite of producers like Albino Rocca, Bruno Rocca and Sottimano who have a perfectionist approach, — 6 years ago
Harmonious balance of fruit and balancing acidity. — 6 months ago
Full range Nebbiolo aroma, not as complete as Roagna or Bartolo Mascarello but more powerful. Very polished but there is a sense of restraint unlike many. The structure has a depth, dimension and density that separates it from most other Barolo.. — 3 years ago
Langhe Savennieres. Decanted for a while. Strong, got that waxy thing, golden color. I wanna say it's opulent, but it's not particularly pleasure-full at the moment. Lovely anyway, with character. — 4 years ago
Could be my 2 or 3 best Dolcetto , Roagna and Papa Celso are the 2 others😇 — 4 years ago

Tastes like cola. Very high cherry taste, I like the wines to be younger but still hanky a case left. — 4 months ago
