Very closed when opened, therefore decided to decant it for five hours. Stunning Barbaresco by an interesting producer and drinks well despite it definitely having great aging potential. Lots of violets and plum tobacco to go with the earthy and leathery notes. — 8 years ago

Nose is mega spice and plum skins. Superb expansiveness. Lovely earthiness and some tree bark and orange rind. What a nose. Palate is so juicy with amazingly sweet fruit and awesome internal aromatics. Amazingly pure and deep. Really suave tannins. Terrific concentration and lovely rusticity. Young Silvia Barbaglia makes fantastic wines in this tiny Northern Piemonte DOC. Boca is a blend from Nebbiolo and Vespolina. This 2006 has aged beautifully and smells like Nebbiolo dried roses, intertwined with Vespolina violets. Elegant and profound, perfectly balanced and very good length. We had the honor of a private tasting with Silvia Altare in the Michele Chiarlo tasting room at Palas Cerequio in La Morra. Silvia is the daughter of Elio Altare, Godfather of modern Barolo. She is a delightful, humorous, efferevescent and worthy heir to her family's craft. The 2010 is a culmination of all the family has learned since they began making Barolo in small casks, and revolutionizing what was otherwise (at the time) little more than small fruit production in the Barolo region. She tells the story of her grandfather leaving the vineyard for two days and her father taking a chainsaw to the family's traditional large casks in favor of his new approach.

Elegant, with perfect poise in tannins and acidity, this single cru from Arborina will go for decades. — 10 years ago
