Hedy’s main course was one of her very best. Charred Onion Crusted Beef Bavette, Carrot Puree. Onion Confit, Potato. I forgot to take a picture so I am using an older similar entree from one of her previous dinners.
The 09 vintage is clearly one of the best in my lifetime. It’s so beautiful and elegant even this young. I have six of these plus a 3 liter so it was good to be able to peek into its development. I double decanted it and poured back in the bottle and re-corked it around 3p. Served it around 8:30p.
It had evolved nicely for the steak. It was full bodied, lush, smooth and elegant. Dark currants, mocha, fresh cigar, soft leather, dry clay, round acidity and a beautiful finish. Paired nice with Hedy’s entree.
The 09 Lilian Ladouys was one of the top sleeper wines of the vintage.

Notes of pecorino and juicy fruit // a really exceptional bottle worth pursuing again — 9 years ago
Very beautiful, smooth and nicely tuned. Love this wine almost as much as the 2012. Every time I re-taste this wine I affirm the rating. Robert Parker gave it 90pts, so I am in good company here. Mother's Day '16. — 9 years ago
Reminiscent of Beaujolais' Gamay, this southern part of Tuscany's Ampeleia is producing some fine red wine! Mine tonight, after 30 minutes swim and spin in the decanter's pool of naked open space and air shows first to the nose wet rocks, slate and sandstone freshly accenting menthol and anise then strictly earthen dirt and minerals and a hint of the berries. First kiss is lightly but intriguingly nasty, wet and dripping red fruit which immediately coats and clings but most interestingly reaches back for the wet rocks overlooking the Med, then re-engages just in time to leave hints of her red and blue berry essence complimenting the blackened octopus in a mash of white beans and spices laced with a hint of Tabasco offered up by Chapel Hill's Il Palio located off Franklin Street (checkout both) Ciao🕶 — 9 years ago

A little funk goes a long way in this país. Closest thing I've had to Lopez Heredia, just short of the real thing. Of interest @Chris MacLean — 9 years ago

Tasting the ‘15 vintage which was great in Bordeaux. Beautiful right after opening. Cassis notes coming to the fore with some air. Re-Tasting 11/13/20: rating affirmed. — 6 years ago

A distanza di un paio di anni dall'ultimo assaggio l'ho trovato ancora in ottima forma e senza quell'eccesso di alcool della volta scorsa. Un infante. — 9 years ago

The subtle nose of roasted hazelnuts and heel worn church stone staircase.
Bright, fresh berry, tart, Rainer cherry, good tannic structure, the acids break free and throw their charms right up in your face.
More acid than I have ever had, from an IGT red wine. An excellent tipple.
Buona Fortuna!
