Oakville Ranch

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

This bottle just didn’t meet my expectations. Hoping my other Oakville Ranch 2012’s will show better than this one. — 4 years ago

Abe’s wines are often hit or miss for me. This one was absolutely, 100% a hit. Singing. — 7 years ago

Bergström Wines

Gregory Ranch Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir 2015

Planted in 2007, big wine in a big vintage. Cooler site, on the west side of the AVA out by elk cove and BTF. Another stunner, 15’s have fruit for days, maybe years. This wine is 100% whole cluster, the only in the lineup, all of the wines are ticking up in percentage every year but this one tops the chart and is distinctly different on the nose and has a silkier texture than the other bottlings — 7 years ago

Mineral Springs Ranch Pinot Noir

(Leather and musk on the nose?. I have a hard time identifying those but they were there on the first tasting pour. Not so much on the second...) Also some sarsaparilla? covered fruit. Nice tannic feel up front but not overpowering the fruit that comes next. Hard for me to ID the fruit. It’s not a classic Oregon cherry bomb but there is cherry - but also woody. This is one @Cynthia Langstaff will love. @David Langstaff — 8 years ago

Klopp Ranch Pinot Noir 2015

A medium long finish that caps dark berries on the nose and mid palate. Earth tones also mingled in. A bit “heavier” than I remembered but still a great one from ME. — 6 years ago

Patz & Hall

Zio Tony Ranch Chardonnay 2016

One of the best California Chards that I’ve tasted. Opens with a subtle minerality that softens to a rich fruit fullness of lemongrass and cardamom that is perfectly accented by the mild French oak, maybe up to 50% new. This is a wine that seems to truly express its terroir ... I need to get more of this!!! — 7 years ago

Had to try one young. Surprisingly approachable an hour in. Going to be another winner down the road. Will wait awhile before opening another. Hard to beat these Quivet Syrah's at this price. — 8 years ago

Bucklin

Old Hill Ranch Ancient Field Blend 2013

.
9.3

This is a wonderful wine - one of the best field blends I’ve had, really. There’s an impression of wild raspberries and boysenberries on the front end, backed by a layer of mildly peppery spice, and presented in a medium-bodied frame. The tannins are mostly resolved and the finish is clean and just a touch sweet. This was ready to go with minimal air.

This is only my second or third Bucklin and I’m becoming a big fan.

Etude

Estate Grown Grace Benoist Ranch Pinot Noir 2014

Had this in a recent blind tasting. Aged for 12 months, very pleasant light berry fruit aromas with slight undertones of earthiness. On the palate cherry and currants with subtle spice. I would consider this one of the lighter bodied CA Pinot’s I have tasted. Soft tannins lingering ending with a mineral tang. Nice, from their 1500 acre Grace Benoit Ranch in Carneros. Consistent quality from recent tastings. — 7 years ago
