Dark Ruby in colour - impenetrable. Blackberry, black fruits generally, raspberry, dusty, touches of tar and menthol. Very rich and ripe on the palate. Very USA in my experience but also very delicious. It never ceases to amaze how Washington state can produce rich ripe wines like this- just like Quilceda Creek. Luscious and seamless. The Walla Walla valley is obviously a great terroir for Cabernet. — 3 years ago
Similar to the ‘09 Quilceda Creek, here’s another example of a very youthful wine aging at a glacial pace. Last time I had this was about two years ago at the winery (if you haven’t visited, it’s well worth your time), and it really hasn’t changed much. It’s chewy, with the core finally starting to open. Inky and fresh squeezed dark fruits on the nose alongside currant, cedar, and dark cocoa dusted dates. On the palate, it’s mainly red and black fruit dominant, with chewy black cranberries and blackberry fig. Will be better in 3-5yrs. — 6 years ago
Boca wine dinner. Now this was good... Let it sit for an hour and the air creates an entirely different full bodied taste. Planning on trading Wells a bottle of Quilceda Creek Galitzine for this... — 7 years ago
A first time wine for me. Nice oak treatment with vanilla and smoke. Overall good tannic structure and balance. Too herbaceous for my tastes… — a year ago
Excellent wine. Still very juicy and fruity. Toasted notes, coffee, overripe forest fruits, cherries notes after an hour in the glass. Very complex. — 4 years ago
...must be Tuesday night in Boca. 2nd only to Quilceda Creek in Washington State. One of my personal favs... — 6 years ago
Moderate ruby/violet hue. Blackberry, graphite, vanilla, and hints of mint are evident on the nose. On the palate, it’s medium to full bodied with bright acidity, 14% alcohol, and a long finish featuring prominent, chalky tannins. It is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from 30 year-old vines in the famed Champoux Vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills. This vineyard is also the source of several 100 Parker point Cabernets from Quilceda Creek Vintners. It’s aged 30 months in 100% new French oak and then in bottle before release. It’s a wine which straddles the poles of New World power and Old World finesse and represents an incredible value for such a high quality terroir. — 8 years ago
2018 opened Oct 2021. Red raspberries and thyme on the nose. Dried currents on the front that are almost immediately balanced by some flinty notes that tingle on the front of the tongue. On the mid palate it continues with mild red-fruit flavors that are offset by some delicate high notes—that remind me of the smell of the loess that that gets blown off the Horse Heaven Hills on dry summers days. It has a slightly tart finish that lingers—but the satiny tannins offset this zing, and they hold this wine together from beginning to end. I’d want to call the tannic structure “heavy” except that they never come to dominate the tasting experience. This wine is lush and zaftig from start to finish, but its tremendous sophistication offsets any heaviness.
BTW, the fruit (which is subtle to begin with) fades after an hour of decanting. The tannic body opens up (i.e. it gets even smoother and fuller) but some harsh high notes begin to dominate on the finish. Frankly, I like this wine best a half an hour out of the bottle. If an increase in intensity is OK for you, go for a longer decanting. I like it better with less oxygenation. The fact that it gets a bit more intense with decanting makes me wonder if this vintage won’t lose some of its subtlety with aging. I’m not going to be able to resist drinking up my limited allocation, so, l’ll never be able to perform the aging experiment. — 4 years ago
The 35 acre Eisele Vineyard has an interesting history, named after its original owners. Originally planted in the 19th Century, the Vineyard became recognised as a special terroir when Ridge and then Joseph Phelps purchased grapes to craft rich complex wines. In 1990 Bart and Daphne Araujo purchased the Vineyard located southeast of Calistoga st the foot of the Palisades Mountains. The wine is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc aged in 100% new French Oak barrels for 22 months. The wine is very dark crimson - amazing for its age. Aromas of Cassis Blackberry with touch of mint which became more apparent with time in Decanter. On the palate Rich profound and concentrated but held in balance finishing with silky supple Tannins. The oak has melded seamlessly. I see from the label they have used Bordeaux based Oenologist Michel Rolland who consults to wineries around the world. Not unlike Quilceda Creek in my limited USA experience. A joy to drink with 5 to 8 more years of great drinking left in it. — 7 years ago

Delicious and compared to the 2013 quilceda creek from last night. Dark berry with charcoal and rustic flavors. Could’ve used more airtime. Overall very good. — 10 months ago
