60/20/20 blend Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault. A classic wine for a very smoky early autumn-like day in Puget Sound. Light extracted dark red in color, excellent clarity. Floral and red fruit notes in nose. Peach, cranberry, cherry and later tutti frutti flavors in mouth with anise and minerality in finish, slight skin astringency. Dry to off dry. Cherry and anise aftertaste. So much flavor... — 6 years ago

Outstanding example of a Madeline Angevine. — 7 years ago
A lark pick up at Total Wine, because I'm a sucker for Cabernet Franc and the low ABV of 12.6% made me think that this bottle may deliver more than just new world fruit and spice. Established by a retired surgeon, the winery experimented with many varietals until settling on those that do best in the Puget Sound AVA (e.g. Madeleine Angevine, Siegerrebe, Pinot Noir). This Cab Franc was sourced from the Yakima Valley AVA though, known for producing high quality WA wine. Not much else I can tell you about the winemaker, but the grape itself is a wonderful pairing wine as it's acid helps to cut through fatty meals and the tannins are not too assertive even when young. Paired this one with a spicy eggplant and green bean coconut curry! I wish I had more! ~$18 | #cabernetfranc #yakimavalley #mountbakervineyards
On the eyes: Bright, orange-cherry red color, clear with light stain, light tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Cherry with hints of black currant and raspberry. Crisp dried leaf notes rounded by gravel. Med- alcohol.
On the tongue: med soft tannins, med alcohol, med acid, med body, nice and round in the mouth. Peppery dried cherry and raspberry, forest floor with petrol notes and tobacco. Nice long pleasant finish. Decant and enjoy this one if you can find it! — 8 years ago
Delicious! Actually has a lot of similarity to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc. I’m not an expert, yet... but if I blind tasted this I would have guessed a New Zealand Sauv Blanc. Notes of Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin Orange, Green Apple, Lychee, Pear, Nectarine with hints of Slate and some Salinity. Low alcohol at 11% and good acidity with a medium finish. — 5 years ago
A relatively low degree of residual sugar gives this raspberry wine a vibrancy not common in dessert wines or fruit wines in general. Will stand well on it’s own as an after-dinner drink or paired with a red-fruited dessert. — 6 years ago
The No Joke is a blend of 71% and 29% Cabernet. On the nose, big blue & violets florals, gummy fruits of, blueberries, blackberries, black plum, black raspberries, pepper, steep black tea and rich, black soils. On the palate, the wine crisscrosses between the presences Malbec & Cabernet on entry. Liquid violets, creamy fruits of; blueberries, blackberries, black plum, black raspberries. Dark soils, black tea, rich black soils, loamy soils, dry stone, dark & milk chocolate, round thick acidity and thick lush, elegant, blue fruit finish. Photos of the tasting bar in their downtown Walla Walla tasting room, tasting room sitting sitting area and beautiful fruit ready for harvest. Producer history and notes...Ryan Crane founded Kerloo Cellars in 2007. Ryan’s path to winemaking began as a volunteer at Animale Cellars. After leaving Animale Cellars, he worked crush with Marie-Eve Gilla at Forgeron Cellars. Marie-Eve is Gilles (Director of Winemaking & Viticulture) Long Shadows wife and who's wines I'll post soon. He ultimately landed an Assistant Winemaker at Va Piano Vineyards for three years. The influence and support from the Washington wine industry like; Gilla, Justin Wylie of Va Piano, and Steve Brooks of Trust Cellars propelled Ryan forward to where he has found himself today owner and Winemaker at Kerloo Cellars. Oh...if you were wondering how they arrived at Kerloo for the name, it's the sound a crane (bird) makes and of course, Ryan's last name is Crane. — 7 years ago
2010| I hope I haven't proclaimed this aloud recently as I would hate to sound insincere, but I'm about to shout from the tabletop that this is quite possibly [one of] the best Grenache I have ever tasted. Ever. It is for forresty, funky, rustic yet elegant, true, balanced in all components. This will leave a lasting impression and possibly ruin me for other Grenache. — 8 years ago

2013 Cayuse "God Only Knows" Grenache. James Brown would have loved this wine because it has more funk than his 1967 hit, "Cold Sweat." I wish I could add it as background music to this post. A huge masculine profile wine, this Grenache really stands alone. Difficult to think of a comparison. Maybe Châteauneuf du Pape on steroids? Framboise, sage, lavender and some black olives intertwined on the nose just below that funk. On the palate, Unami and shiitake mushrooms olive tapenade and roasted game with some pomegranate and boysenberry jam mixed in. When I read that, it doesn't sound very enticing, but believe me, its spectacular. Flirts with perfection structurally. Tremendously rich. Beautifully long finish. Maybe not up to the 12, just different. Love all things Christophe Baron. — 7 years ago

This deep ruby wine is rich with blueberry and cassis flavors, with a pleasant, lingering graphite flavor to the finish. This may sound strange, but it is effective in cleansing the palate. This is Malbec in the Bordeaux style, rather than the Latin American, but translated through the gloss of Washington terroir and craft! — 5 years ago
