While it is a great bottle of wine, the 2013 does not compare to the 2012. Bold fruit, tampered down by some proper tannins. And then there is that wonderful velvety Rutherford dust on the long finish. — 10 years ago

Just out of the bottle this was a bit 'big'. It screamed exotic fruits; a bit too much to my taste. The palate was not that heavy, so it felt slightly out of balance. I missed (hoped for) minerality/citrus (tension?) too. Left half the bottle for the next day. The 'bigness' was gone and on the palate it gained weight (in a nice acidic way). Will def. benefit from proper decanting or longer aging. Made by Lalou Bize-Leroy 'in the vineyard'. They don't have a winemaker on the payroll. Great quality Bourgogne Blanc, made out of declassified Meursault, Puligny and Savigny fruit. But at this pricelevel there is serious competition around the corner... — 11 years ago

Really good meaty funk. I've heard the term "backward wine" and I didn't know what it meant until now. I tasted the funk b4 the fruit but still had nice fruit. Supposedly this is a characteristic of some very well regarded Washington syrahs. I dig it, good stuff. — 13 years ago

Very nice but perhaps a bit over the hill - from half bottle. Truly classic as expected with lots of deep leather, dusty dark red fruit, cassis, and refined tannins. Good acid that does hold things together nicely. Nothing like a good Bordeaux to ring in proper wine season. — 8 years ago

Rich decadent burnt caramelised apple pie / tarte tatin in a glass - a heavy style champagne that’s not as fresh as DP 96 or Krug 96 but folks who like oxidative style bubbles will love the depth 👍

A proper good Margaux! Dark plummy blackened red. Aroma of plum, blackcurrant & wet stones. Thick intensive balanced smooth jammy blackcurrant, cocoa & plums on palate with med body. Long back fruit finish with little acidity.

Another serious Sam Kaplan concoction (Sam is in the photo...not the one with the snake). A Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the famous Dr. Crane, as Piedras and the Weitz Vineyards. Deep color, staining the glass (and anaconda decanter...that will never be the same) and layering the sides of the glass with beautiful, plush opaque runs. Full-bodied to almost dense, but still trademark Kaplan lushness, balance and great finish. Dark cherry fruits and more chocolate than cocoa on the tastebuds with a touch of spice on the nose. Already a stunning wine at 2014, with proper decanting. I am sure it only gets better!! — 9 years ago
