Still strong tannins, that relax after a little decanting. Lovely, typical aromas - black cherry, roses, cedar. Strong mouthfeel, big tannins. Acidity is lively, dried rose petals, bitumen. — 6 years ago
Magnum 1990 Granbussia Barolo. At Ner w CB and MG visiting from Boston for MG’s bday. Decanted. Had a little of that sweetness, but overall, balanced. — 7 years ago
This is a beautiful Barolo that reflects the nuance and richness of the earth from which it was harvested., and the care of this legendary vintner. Wow! It is still evolving, probably almost reached its peak. — 8 years ago
Better on day 2. Would like to try this again in 6 months to a year. — 8 years ago
This wine disappeared rather quickly tonight. 93 without batting an eye, maybe 94. This wine pours a translucent red / violet. Nose of mint and herbal cherry. Entry is MUCH more rounded than expected. Sweet cherry cola and acidity building in the mid palate. Finishes with some bing cherry sweetness, some herb, hint of tart, hint of oak tannin but not much. Good weight without being overpowering, and went with rigatoni pasta quite well. I think this one has another 5 years before it starts to head down the hill. Nice bottle. — 7 years ago
Personally I Absolutely adore this wine with its rich and ripe fruit character but with a sharp freshness that is keeping it all together. A generous but well placed oak character balanced by the fruit and a sharp minerality that is bringing the complexity that is making this treasure no less than a great wine. — 7 years ago
🤜 Potential - Yes it's young I know 😁 Testing a new Barolo @ £45 decanted 4 times & 3hrs 💨 to let it show but better in 4-7yrs as built very well 👍 Try 2020 ono ⏰
🍷 Garnet cherry w/ fine brown edge
👃 Leather whipped smoke induced mushrooms growing in a mineral filled earthy orchard of red cherry trees
👄 Med+ body of earthy slight tart red & dark cherry in fine dry tannins w/ green red fruits undertone
🎯 Med+ dirty earthy dry cherry linger & unripe green fruits — 8 years ago
Recommended by server. Amazing! Love it! Very close to a Malbec but better. — 8 years ago
Pale yellow with a bit of haze. Smells exactly like those Italian pear nectars you have as a kid. Bit of lemon and white flowers on the nose also. Ripe Bartlett pear is the most dominant flavour, with green mango, and finishing on the slick oiliness of fried sage. Medium minus acidity, medium finish. Don't know what to pair it with, buts it's highly drinkable — 4 years ago
This is a present from a friend from Emilia Romagna. First encounter with this appellation so I'll give a note against what I've already tasted with sangiovese.
The nose is very mineral with gun powder and pencil lead at first. The usual markers of sangiovese I know are lurking in the background, i.e. Almond and cherry. There is a bit of a toasty note that suggests some oak barrel aging too. The palate is very intense with a strong acid backbone, cherry and almond all along for a more usual sangiovese little tune, some grip and a cool and fluid matter, a bit of tannins and a long fruity finish with a bitter component on the sides in the end.
This is rather well crafted and calls for a more thorough inspection of what Emilia Romagna has to offer. Off we go!
Edit: this was a perfect way of celebrating my 100th Italian wine in here! — 6 years ago
The aromas are delightful with rose petal, tar, red cherry, pomegranate and Asian spices. The palate is not as interesting red fruit and spice with a hint of sous boos. This bottle lacks a touch of depth and complexity. Tannins are nicely resolved but just lacks real verve on the finish. — 8 years ago
Made my wife's favorite dinner for our anniversary and opened up this treasure to accompany. Beginning to mature and drinking great currently. Nose is impeccably balanced with dark berry fruit and earthy tones. The palate opens up to blackberry, cherry, spice and a touch of smoke. Fine tannins lead the lingering finish that sticks around forever. Dinner was homemade fettuccini with fresh tomato sauce with garlic, capers and white wine along side grilled Italian sausage from our local butcher. — 8 years ago
