Christmas Day wine 🎄🎅🏼🍷

Acquired this for two reasons: Flora Springs was my “a-ha” wine 10yrs ago which started my wine journey, and secondly because it’s my sister-in-law’s birth year.

Enjoyed on Christmas Day (with said sister-in-law) and family (the family who introduced me to wine + Flora Springs). Kept the bottle standing for a few days. In the glass, there was bricking but the color was much more vibrant than expected. Aromatically, it showed mushroom and fig, but a good bit of muddled red and black berry fruit, some mint as well. Alive, elegant and bright on the palate with good tannin structure (held strong the two hours it was open). Small hint of tobacco at the finish, but the berry fruit stayed persistent keeping the flavors balanced. Undeniably older Napa (13%) and in great shape. — 4 months ago

A smoky blend of crushed raspberries, sage, cola and crushed stones creates a seductive bouquet as the 2019 Pinot Noir La Source comes to life in the glass. This is soft yet lifted in feel, with tart red and blue fruits that swirl throughout as violet inner florals resonate toward the close. The 2019 finishes perfumed and long with an air of lavender and a tart blackberry twang that lingers over a bed of well-rounded tannins. This is the first vintage in which Sashi Moorman was entirely happy with the structural balance achieved in the Pinot Noir La Source. I must admit, it's a compelling wine. 64% CS, 28% ME, & 8% CF. No Malbec as listed in the description. I’ve had this for awhile. Didn’t like the first bottle so I avoided trying again. When I did try again I was surprised how much it improved with some age. — 4 years ago

The longevity this wine is capable of is shocking. The color hardly looks half its age, with a blooming nose that screams a much younger, softened cab of yesteryear. After half an hour open there’s nose of blueberry and butterscotch, vanilla and spicy peppery notes still persist! Over time a mustiness emerged, along with notes of wet wood, maybe even a little mustard! There’s even still a zippy, lingering acidity on the palate that focuses towards the tip of the tongue, either flavors of ripe strawberry, blueberry, plum and some meaty savory subtle notes, but primarily jammy fruit, with a palate that develops some woody cedar and forest floor notes and as it becomes further oxygenated. This is a delicious white blend from Napa Valley.

Medium plus in body and creamy.

Dry on the palate with medium plus acidity.

Showing green apples, grapefruits, gooseberries, light vegetables, herbs, minerals and white pepper.

Long tangy finish with limes and almonds.

Elegant and well balanced. Crisp, refreshing and easy drinking. An Interesting wine.

Good by itself or with food. A good sipping wine that I had by the lake. Paired nicely with Brie cheese.

A blend of 73% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Chardonnay and 13% Malvasia. Aged for 7 months in used French oak barrels. A small production of 600 cases.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

It’s not just the name of the 2018 Under the Wire Alder Springs Sparkling Pinot Noir that is more than a mouthful. This is a beautiful, multi-layered sparkler with floral notes, hints of fragrant herbs and strawberry along with crisp acidity and a subtle mousse. It’s somewhere between a white and rosé, having taken on a copper hue from brief skin contact. The Alder Springs is a great food wine with room to develop. — 6 months ago

Decisions decisions… Both very comparable styles. Salvestrin is a St Helena Suav Blanc with fruit derived from the foothills and elaborated by a female winemaker, it’s got great balance and composure. Very elegant on the palate, it has this sublime honeysuckle component somewhere in the mid palate. — 7 months ago

Nose has lime zest, lime juice, green hay, wet granite/limestone pebbles, oxidized green apple peel, polyethylene tubing and tangerine peel.
Palate has Key lime flesh, cold tangerine slice, apricot skin, wet-pulverized limestone, lemongrass, tangerine zest, (minor) dried apricot and light honey on the medium finish, medium acid, great balance. — 4 years ago
