Sunbird Red Meritage 2018

Just had a coravin taste of the 18. Really drinking well right out of the body. Mellowing out, big fruit, great structure, softening up for a great mouthfeel. This is gonna be really good soon. — 10 months ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 1990

Kicking the festivities off with some 1990 Champagne. This is medium gold with active bubble stream. Brioche toast nose. Also notes of citrus, apple juice and stones. Pleasant in the mouth but not overpowering. Decent showing but I expected (and wanted) more energy and mousse. (Bday 1 of 13) — 4 years ago

The Stones Speak Funk Estate Vineyard Syrah 2016

The Stones Speak. Did they ever! Full bodied, dense concentrates of decaying fall leaves after a fresh rain shower drenched in minerals, fine polished fully integrated tannins almost leaving a sweet edge. All secondary and tertiary notes. No distinct fruit to be recognized. It was like drinking extracts squeezed from the river rock on which they grow the Syrah. A flavor explosion as soon as it hits your mouth. — 2 years ago

We tried pairing this wine with a cheese that would compliment it - Manchego, Jarlsberg, and Gouda. The Manchego’s nutty flavor brought a sweetness outcompeting the wine so it was out of balance. However was lovely to eat after a sip of wine, pairing nicely with the aftertaste. The Jarlsberg’s subtle flavors disappeared with the wine-didn’t distract or bring out the flavors; but the Gouda stood up and made an excellent pairing.

New producer to me. Pretty strong reviews and I can see why. This is not your jammy fruit bomb zin that are super common. Finesse in style but retaining richness in flavor. Reminiscent of Carlisle style zins with higher acidity, lower ABV and encompassing the entire fruit spectrum. Ripe raspberries, blueberries and blackberries accompanied by Mexican vanilla and sandalwood aromatics. Energetic on the palate. Delicious. Thanks for opening, @Jack Thompson . — 5 years ago

@David T : And nice to enjoy one at 14.4 ABV when many others are 15-16%!

@Shay A In my perfect world, they would all be 12-13%. However, some producers mask the higher ABV levels of today better than others.

Been holding onto this for a while and well worth it! Rich and velvety, deep jam my aroma, long lasting tart strawberry finish, wonderful with cheese plate and with dark chocolate. — 9 months ago

Medium garnet color. Very dark chocolate, tart cherry on the palette. Medium body, well balanced. Not too much tan in, not sahara-y. Great mouthfeel! Tasted blind with Packer and Jordan — 2 years ago
