Lagier Meredith

Mount Veeder Mondeuse 2012

Purchased at the winery on my single visit there, had gone to pick up the Syrah, and was very taken with this tiny production Mondeuse. Rich, but not heavy, rustic in some ways, but amazing “mountain fruit” depth and great acidity which largely hides the structure and tannins, long, lingering finish, needs a fair amount of cellaring, though beautiful tonight!! — 6 months ago

@Ira Schwartz, based on emails I’ve received in the past six months, Steve (Lahore) and Carole (Meredith) have stopped making wine to fully retire. Super nice people!!

Mount Langi Ghiran

Langi Shiraz 2008

See 3 previous notes for the 2008 vintage (and one for the 2009). This was my final 2008 sadly. Without mincing words, this is one of my favourite Australian reds, and has been for a long time. Trademark white pepper, spice and liquorice. The plums and blackberry of its youth are now more savoury in style. Just a stunning wine which could compete with any top grade Cote Rotie. Unfortunately the price now reflects the high quality. In the Good Wine Guide of 2011 this was voted Best Shiraz and Wine of the Year. Nick Stock - 98 points. — 5 months ago

One of my favourites too, at least back in the days. I haven't tasted any recent vintage.

Henschke

Keyneton Mount Edelstone Vineyard Shiraz 2018

Purchased from Marion Hotel and Cellars near Adelaide, we enjoyed this in American River on Kangaroo Island. This full-bodied Shiraz evolved beautifully over the evening, revealing layers of dark berries, pepper, tobacco, Australian bark and earth, and a hint of anise, with a spicy finish. Balanced and complex, it earned full bonus points for how much we enjoyed it. A great wine, albeit with a screw cap. — 10 months ago

Calera Wine Company

Jensen Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Dark ruby in color with aromas of black cherry, lavender, cloves, and caramel. Nicely concentrated red fruit and gravelly minerality are evident on the palate with firm acidity and moderate fine grained tannin evident on the finish. Josh Jensen made this from 100 % organically grown Pinot Noir sourced from vines planted in 1975, fermented with native yeasts, then aged 18 months in 30% new French oak. Consumed from a 375 mL bottle, this wine has the fruit and balance to enjoy now and the structure to allow it to go 15 years or more. 14.3% ABV. $88. — 7 years ago

Delicious, great balance and nice structure. Could be mistaken for a nice burgundy. Great balance of earthy and fruity notes. Would probably be better after more time. Also tried the 2022 which was good but too young — 5 months ago

Mount Eden Vineyards

Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2020

2020 vintage. A fave CA chard and producer. Medium-medium heavy body. Tasting slightly more tropical and advanced with less acidity than usual. Still absolutely delicious tho. Would like to retaste and reevaluate in 5-6 months tho. Based on 30 vintages of tasting this particular wine, betting it reconciles any tawdry, fleeting concerns that occupy my compromised palate and right quick. 01.22.25. — 9 months ago

1hr+ decant and could have used more. Dark red color. Interesting nose with metallic, medicinal tones that tingled my nose. Wine has massive strawberry and cassis; and is sweeter than I was expecting. Very concentrated. The tannins reduce with ample air and the spicy aspects dissipate with time as well making it more approachable. Medium finish. — 5 years ago

Wendouree

Clare Valley Cabernet Malbec 2009

Another full bodied Wendouree from my brothers cellar. Nice and savoury with softening grainy Tannins and again the Eucalyptus kept in check. Don’t go near these Wendouree reds until at least 10 years from vintage. — 6 years ago

Wow, acid is here and that's for sure. Utterly refreshing, peppery lime nose. Grapefruit, gave, bitter lime but all very balanced. I could drink a bucket. — 7 years ago
