Soft brown in color. Toasted notes with dried fruit, soft plum, tar and some high toned acidity. A slightly austere palate but a haunting fragrant quality. Very pretty. You need to lean in a bit to see the beauty — 9 months ago
This was served to me single-blind, after the 2016 Cascina Fontana Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto. I knew it was Barolo, but from where? It seemed like a broader shouldered wine that I might associate from the Comune di Barolo, but I wasn’t certain. The wine pours a deep, garnet color with a near opaque core. Medium viscosity, with no staining of the tears. On the nose, developing and much darker fruited than the Cascina Fontana with notes of dark cherry and some blackberry notes too. There was some tobacco, tar, red roses, minerals and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and delicious. Again, there is real quality here and a very lovely texture. And there it is: Borgogno’s Riserva Cannubi, 2011! I am not surprised this is Cannubi, with there being no shortage of quality fruit and all. This was really fun to enjoy. Drink now with some patience or through 2041. — a year ago

No vintage date but this mag is likely from the 50s or 60s. One of the best dessert wines I’ve ever tasted. Sweet but not overpowering and with wonderful acidity so you just want to keep downing the glasses. — 7 years ago

Elegant wine from La Morra with taste of raspberries, dried cherries, black tea.
Ripe but not the greatest Barolo I had.

Dense and masculine. Broad white thick fruit. Nice rounded edges. Lacks a little of the complexity of the 67 and 64 but good solid fruit. — 9 months ago
Aced this blind, though I felt the palate weight does lean more towards a Langhe Nebbiolo by convention.
Like the blinded Margaux on the table, the nose led with Morello cherries, but without new oak and more layers such as aromas of dried roses, leather, star anise, and earth. The trademark Nebbiolo tannins and acidity on the palate was what scored the clincher for me. Lighter than expected for the level of tannins, but I felt it was still balanced especially with the mouth-filling mid-palate fruit (mixed berries here). Finishes with spice and fresh acidity. It’s a dangerous drink given how elegant it is at 14.5% abv. Best red of the night!
NB: The 2017 Blue Label Ascheri Barolo was made with a blend of fruits from La Morra, Verduno, and Serralunga. Fermentation was a 50% mix of 15-day batch and 25-day batch with submerged cap. Aging was for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels (70% new oak and 30% used) and for 12 months in stainless steel before bottling. It’s interesting to note how little wood character was imparted into the wine using large format barrels, despite the high percentage of new oak. I would imagine that one of the roles of this cuvée at Ascheri is just to season the new barrels for use in the better cuvées. — 3 years ago
Light and floral, reminded me of something from La Morra — 5 years ago
Very good. Orange blossom and fusel oil nose. Pear, grapefruit and lime fruit. Crisp mineral finish. Good food wine or entertaining wine. — 6 years ago
Dec 2023: singing after 2 hour decant, great balance, not many signs of aging, style resembles classic Barolo from neighbouring Cannubi, drink or hold — 6 years ago
A lovely smoky dark dried plum with notes of sherry and dried apricot. Great texture and balance. Though the fruit is more to the brown, Madeira end of the spectrum it is Still remarkably fresh and polished. A soulful, fascinating wine. — 9 months ago

Light, fruit foward, nice acid with very light tanin finish. — 4 years ago
Old Nebbiolo nose with sour cherry on palate for first two hours, then rose and red fruit for next hour, then as it was just hitting its stride it was gone - we finished it. Next time need to be more patient, if I’m lucky enough for a next time. Purchased from Walker Wines who has great old Nebbiolo offerings. — 5 years ago
