Volker Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1988

In a constant casual search for birth year bottles, I came across this - I liked the smart label design and recognized the Eisele name, but wasn’t expecting much. Amazingly fresh and vibrant! Just starting to show elegant tertiary character of cigar box and incense, with a core of fresh berry and stone fruit. Palate is generous and velvety. A fantastic surprise and beautiful pairing for the old standby NY strip steak and roasted potatoes. — 4 years ago

Leonetti Cellar

Reserve Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

Sourced from the Loess, Seven Hills, Holly Roller, Serra Pedace, Mill Creek Upland and Leonetti Old Block Vineyards, the red blend was aged for 22 months in French oak before bottling. The final blend is a smaller than usual portion of Cabernet Sauvignon (73%) and an unusually high portion of Malbec (22%) with just a touch of Cabernet Franc (5%). This wine needs a two hour decant before enjoying. Once aroused, this slowly unveils green bell pepper, blueberry compote, creme de cassis and sagebrush tones that fill this highly perfumed nose. The palate is decadent, revealing an exceedingly plush texture. With bright acidity and serious weight, the wine expresses copious dark fruits with sweet pipe tobacco, blueberry compote and dark chocolate shaving flavors. Seductive in its youth, this stunning new bottling will have an exceedingly long life ahead of it. Try to resist this beauty for at least another year. Drink 2020-2045- 97 — 5 years ago

Sine Qua Non

The Thrill of Stamp Collecting Syrah 2011

A spicy, pepper mill infused hedonists delight. Weighty and dense and deep garnet in the glass. Notable asphalt or tar profile with kirsch, red fruit compote and smoke. In the SQN family I'd say this is the crazy fun uncle. It's on the teetering edge of over the top and inappropriate....but in the end it delivers the kind of good times that you appreciate more and more for their reliable simplicity. — 7 years ago
