Marto Weiss is a field blend of seven German varietals from just three hectares of land, most of which see two weeks on skins. Then all together for ten months in neutral oak. It’s a tropical fruit tea blend with beautiful depth and body and clocks in at a measly 10% abv. Aromas of naval orange, roasted pineapple, and flavors of peach apricot iced tea.
Martin studied under Tom Lobbe of Matassa and credits him for much of he has been able to produce.

Легкое тело, сочный собраный вкус с доминантой красных ягод, вишни, сушеных трав и цветочной пыльцы, извести. Изящная структура с высокой ягодной кислотностью и чуть суховатыми мелкозернистыми танинами. Отлично. 17,5/20

Craig Hawkins, поработав в подростковом возрасте на винограднике брата, влюбился в вино и решил связать свою жизнь с виноделием. До покупки собственного участка в Свартленде, Крейг несколько лет провел на винодельнях в Южной Африке и Европе, в том числе успел поработать в легендарном Domaine Matassa, владельца которого он называет своим главным учителем [God save the Tom Lubbe].

Крейг и его жена Карла настоящие экспериментаторы, постоянно оттачивающие свое мастерство. У них нет устоявшейся линейки вин, каждый новый винтаж отличается от предыдущего, но сохраняется бескомпромиссный подход: максимум 11-12 градусов алкоголя, частый skin contact для белых вин, натуральные дрожжи, отказ от фильтрации, минимизация использования серы и, естественно, биодинамическое виноградарство. Ребята делают вина, которые в первую очередь нравятся им самим.

Всё, что мне довелось попробовать от Testalonga, было исключительно элегантно, точно и ярко. Это те редкие вина, которые одновременно сочетают в себе легкость и комплексность: их можно пить не задумываясь, или бесконечно долго раскладывать на составляющие.

Rollaball falls into one of my favourite categories - quaffable, juicy yet interesting wines. The only real issue with this wine is that it ends treacherously. Something in-between rosé and red wine. Red currant, white pepper, medicinal herbs, red apple and subtle hints of VA. Great acidity, fresh, well balanced. Aftertaste is long and delicious. No really, I just want more. — 3 years ago

It’s immediately apparent this wine is made from skill and experience - rather than from a newcomer to the French natural wine arena. Matassa Rouge is 100% early picked Carignan from South African/New Zealand transplant to the Southern Rhône, Tom Lobbe.

It’s beautifully pure, perfectly concentrated, and elegantly fresh - frontloaded with ripe berries and minerals. You’ll notice some sulfur stink which will subside after ten or fifteen minutes. Then blackberries, raspberries, and mulberries. Silky smooth.

You won’t remember the grape so much as the winemaking. — 5 years ago
