Discovered at a Baur au Lac Vins tasting, enjoyed it whilst minding Grischa. Perfume on the nose, interesting on the palate. — 8 months ago
This is my last bottle of this remarkable single vineyard Syrah, the first bottle consumed about 6 years ago.
The nose opens seamlessly with ripe plum, blueberry compote, and cassis before evolving into savory waves of smoked meat, dark cocoa, dried violet, and aged soy. The palate is full and silky, with a refined sweetness and integrated spice driving a long, savory finish. Still powerful but now balanced and restrained. In peak form. — 10 months ago
I tasted the 1982 Lynch-Bages twice within a month, both at a private dinner in London and at the château, from bottle and double-magnum on separate occasions. Both vindicate an exceptionally fine 1982, perhaps a bit overlooked in a vintage full of stars. Curiously, the bottle in Bordeaux does not fully deliver the mesmerizing freshness and energy compared to the bottle in London: pencil-lead-tinged black fruit intermixed with clove and freshly-rolled tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, perhaps just a little austere compared to its peers. Yet, indeed, the bottle in London exudes class and composure with a detailed, mineral-driven vintage belying that year's unseasonably warm period. Superb. Tasted both in London at a private dinner and at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2023) — 3 years ago
dark ruby; blackcurrants, bell pepper, graphite, tar; medium body, medium+ acidity, fine grained tannin, 14.8% ABV; blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot with fruit sourced from multiple sites in Napa Valley ranging from the high elevations and volcanic soils of Diamond Mountain to the alluvial soils and warmer weather of Coombsville, Rutherford and Stags Leap District, aged 18 months in 60% new French oak; a very balanced style; $50 — 6 years ago
Pretty darn close to old school Napa. — 3 years ago
Field blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Beurot, Muscat and Pinot Noir from the Engelgarten, a vineyard with poor, gravelly soils located just outside the walls of Bergheim (about 10 miles north of Colmar, in the Haut Rhin). Pure, expressive nose with notes of citrus, rubber and minerals. Intense, dry, textured. Slightly ripe. Long, saline finish. — 4 years ago
Dry, oxidized and extracted. Aromatics showing more austere Pinot Gris than Gewürztraminer. — 7 years ago
Really nice light and matured field like rising. Green apples, mibnt, ligt tobacco notes I aroma. Green apples, green peaches, pinch of sweet green grapes at palate. Medium accidity. Fresh but has a character. — 7 months ago
WOW!!!! 2017 Chateau Gloria Saint-Julien , Domaines MARTIN. - Bordeaux France!!!!!!! I have finally found an exceptional bordeaux that rocks my taste buds! The color is dark burgundy. The legs are long and slow. On the nose, there’s lots of rhubarb pie and violets! My initial pallet is tantalized with explosions of blueberries, boysenberries, cherries, and chocolate. The mid pallet quickly resolves into a velvety, slightly buttered texture. Then there is a dive straight to the finish with lots of earthy oak and cigar box with a very moderately dry finish. . This is a good one!!!!!! We purchased this in Ireland and brought it home to the USA. Unfortunately, we only bought one bottle which is already halfway gone and I’m sure as you’re reading this, it will be completely gone. — 10 months ago
Light and dry but funky, almost yeasty tannins mixed with berries. Distinct old vine Chilean varietals that I would like to see more of. — 4 years ago
