Tinto Pesquera Crianza Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2015

Deep ruby, stewed red fruits, white and black pepper, clove, herbaceous, some vegies. Medium + tannins, high alcohol, full bodied, medium acidity. Medium finish. Very nice. On to an older competitor...

Please read my subsequent notes in the Muga Prado Enea for more context.

@Antonio Galloni any thoughts?

Terrasses Du Steinacker Vignobles d'Alsace Pinot Gris 2018

2018 was the very first vintage for this young French - Colombian couple in Albé (the only mountainous zone in Alsace) and the results are impressive. This is their high end Pinot Gris from the Steinacker vineyard at over 400 meters of altitude on schistuous soils. A blend of 3 different vinification techniques (stainless steel, oak and amphora) that has spent 9 months on the lees. Beautiful nose of white peach and flowers, with an uncommon minerality. Concentrated and juicy with real depth and impressive length, this is the most exciting Pinot Gris I have tasted in a long time from a region where this grape is way too often characterised by excessive residual sugar. Abv. 14,5 %. — 5 years ago

Castaño Prado Vineyards Albariño 2016

Was highly skeptical of trying a cheap Texas wine, but was pleasantly surprised. Albariño is one of my favorite white grape varietals, and after learning that Spanish and Portuguese grapes do particularly well in the Texas climate thought I’d give it a shot. Crisp, very refreshing, Happy 4th! — 7 years ago

@Shay A I’ve seen your post about Ron Yates, really want to give his wines a try. Met some guys at an Austrian/German wine shop in Fredericksburg, and they gave me a list of smaller wineries that they say are worth checking out next time I’m down there. Had no idea that a majority of grapes are grown out towards Lubbock. Cheers

@Arden Barnett : My wife and I did a visit down there last spring and found some neat wineries. Kuhlman Cellars and Calais Winery were standouts. Happy to share some bottles if/when we meet up. You should come to Classic Wine Storage one day when we have a group up there...it’s quite the event.

@Shay A both of those are on my list! I believe Jack and Ben talked a few weeks ago about getting a wine dinner going later this month. I will talk to Jack and we will try and get something setup soon. Y’alls get togethers at Classic Wine always look amazing.

Les Chaignots Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1999

Mid-weight but feels delicate initially. Opens up and puts on body after a while in the glass. Blackberry, earth, dried leaves and leather. This is an attractive Burgundy at the peak of its window. Generously brought by @Daniel Moritz to lunch - the boys' lunch for orphan husbands during my wife's baby shower. — 7 years ago

Frias

Prado Napa Valley Red Blend 2014

Juicy, succulent with layers of texture. Black cherry and licorice with smoke, vanillin, and red rose petal. Really unique palate.. smooth and almost airy but with a beautiful cherry fruit texture. Blind, I would have guessed this to be the spring mountain, honestly. 100% single block Oakville vineyard. Nothing like regular oakville and I love it for that. — 8 years ago
