Unbricked ruby. Freaking textbook nose of roses and spices, perfumed and delicate, sweet and inviting like a country maiden picking flowers. So, so Pinot. The palate is sweet, soft, inviting with pie cherries, macerated raspberries, cinnamon and a little wood spice. Good, not great, length. But exceedingly delicious. Wonderful, with a very light touch. Fuck yeah maiden!!! Tastes like beer — 12 years ago
Youthful, vibrant acidity, delicious. Great length, finishes with petrol note. Maiden voyage with the Coravin. — 12 years ago
The bouquet is incredible on this wine. Huge cedar note, with deep dark chocolate and spice in the nose. Finish is big and long. Palate is filled with the same notes from the bouquet. My maiden voyage with epoch and it is quickly rising to the top of my list.... tannin structure on this wine is elegant, complex and very present. — 9 years ago

2005 Domaine Ostertag Fronholz Alsace AOC Vendange Tardive de Gewurtztrainer. Lush, unctuous, stewed lychees, roses, cloves, autumn spices and stroopwaffels. I had this with a Duck Sriracha of deep fried tender duck with garlic and tamarind sauce, chopped fresh green chili from 22 Thai Cuisine on Maiden Lane near Wall Street. A hot and spicy Thai dish meets an aromatic, sweet Alsatian Gewurtz. This is quite an aggressive wine-and-food pairing but it works great for me. — 13 years ago

Jenny Wagner Clark, the daughter of Chuck Wagner, of Caymus, crafts both Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc under the Emmolo label. Her mother's maiden name is Emmolo. The Emmolos have a long history in Napa Valley with Jenny’s great-grandfather, Salvatore Emmolo, starting the family’s grapevine rootstock nursery in St. Helena in 1923. Her grandfather, Frank Emmolo, not only managed the nursery, but also grew Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot on their family property. The 2015 Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc is straightforward, but such an elegant illustration of Sauvignon Blanc. White peach, d'Anjou pear, and pink grapefruit are set against a backdrop of wet stone. In keeping with this style, the wine shies away from the typically piercing acidity of Sauvignon Blanc, opting for a more genteel approach, which definitely sets this apart from its peers. — 9 years ago
