#dfwe2018 — 7 years ago
Wow, in a very nice place right now, tannins completely gone. The Merlot softens the palate, but the Cabernet still dominates on the nose. Drinking probably at peak.

Take your time here and you might want to decant this for 1hr or so. Structure and focus start to show the longer you give it. Didn't quite meet the RP 99 score but a great bottle. #hawaii #wheninamerica #homesweethome — 9 years ago
Clearing out the wine cellar. This '99 displays brisk tannin offset by softly welcoming ruby fruit. A most enjoyable sipper & terrific alongside white beans w shallots, chives, broccoli, olive oil, etc. — 10 years ago

Pristine cork, decanted for 5 hours: still balanced, complex, and harmonious as a 20 year old in a challenging vintage. Fruit still lively, with mellow tannins—this still has a few years left. Came out best for me in an evening of great old wines: ‘98 Corison, ‘98 Montelena Estate, plus de la Tour ‘99. Never underestimate the consistency of a great estate, year after year. Glad I have another bottle or two. — 7 years ago
Deep red with ruby highlights, but Guillaume d'Angerville noted that this premier cru is typically softly extracted and light in color. Compelling, vibrant aromas of blueberry pastille, violet, licorice and spicecake. Incredibly primary and sweet, with its density leavened by harmonious acidity. Pliant dark berry flavors are complicated by hints of flowers and spices. This very pure wine has to be one of the most youthful 1999s I tasted this winter. Finishes with utterly suave tannins and outstanding length. This infant is just beginning to open and should enjoy a long plateau of maturity. D'Angerville described 1999 as "a magical vintage," noting that the yield here was at least 40 hectoliters per hectare. His father Jacques actually held back 4,000 bottles of wine in '99 but Guillaume has released most of these bottles by now to loyal clients of the domain. 1986 Chateau Margaux Bordeaux. BBQ at the house while B&M Sh were visiting. Last red wine we drank, after the '93 Dujac Chambolle Musigny and the '99 La Tache. Excellent. Tons of funky, earthy, mineral notes. — 9 years ago

1999 Joseph Phelps Insignia. Lunch at T w Roger S and BP. Opened on a lark to compare w '99 Soldera Brunello. Hands down, this won. We didn't even have time to decant. Poured straight away- it was big, but smooth and without harshness. Awesome — 9 years ago

Our friends Larry and Martie introduced us to this producer. 50% Ch and 50% PN, this is a blend of '99 vintage with reserve wines from '96-98. Malo is blocked. With only 2 gms/L sugar, this comes across Krug-like with great texture and length. Styled in an oxidative fashion in part due to the age of the base wines, Cuvée Louis is quite ample, mature and complex. Lovely — 10 years ago

The 2013 Opus One is an absolute stunning release, and is certainly one of most impressive young wines I have ever tasted from this estate. This shows a darker, more forward profile from this warm vintage, and is clearly one to contemplate, as there are so many complexities and working parts to this compelling wine. This instantly impresses as it opens to intense aromatics of crème de cassis, black cherry, blackberry compote and black plum woven together with mocha, sandalwood. The mouthfeel is voluptuous and beautifully concenrated with deep and penetrating flavors of black cherry, créme de cassis, blackberry cobbler, anise, sage and anise, which all resonate beautifully across the palate. This is already extreamly appealing, but try to resist this hedonistic wine for at least another few years, as there is undoubtedly a long future ahead. Drink 2019-2035-99 — 7 years ago
