Welcome Ciliegiolo from Umbria- a unicorn varietal. Dark crimson color, crushed red fruits & cassis on nose; on palate medium plus acidity, medium body, a gorgeous texture- fine grained tannins, so some grip. Blackberries & black currant fruit. Really, really good. — 5 years ago

Dinner w Bryan and Katy at Crown Super Deluxe, a fancy Benihana w JAPANESE FRUIT TOMATOES and lobster that jumps off the plate and proper Japanese A5 Wagyu (not some American imitation shit). The wine: a Cab franc merlot that’s lighter than you would expect. A recommendation from the house that was a delicious end to the meal, and was perfect w the Wagyu. — 5 years ago
Young and needs a lot of air to drink now. Will be great in 3-5 years. — 6 years ago
Dark fruit/plum. Med-full bodies. Improved over1-2 hours. Smooth tannins with good acid. Very well balanced. Love this Tuscan Syrah. 1 bottle left if this vintage. Drink next 3-4 years. — 7 years ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2021 pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium plus viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe red and black fruit: Morello cherry, raspberries, pomegranate, roses, fresh asphalt, talcum powder, dry green herbs, gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and a touch savory. In general, the 2021’s are strutting at this early stage and it’s hard to say if they will shut down like the 2010 and 2013 vintage or keep delivering the goods like the 2016 vintage. Regardless, the future is long and bright. Drink now with patience and through 2061. — 8 months ago
