Joe Martin, established St. Francis Vineyard in 1971, planting 22 acres of Chardonnay & 60 acres of Merlot. He opened the winery in 1979 with partner Lloyd Canton. Dk berry fruits, spice & cedar aromas. Black cherry and blackberry flavors with tobacco, oak and pepper spice. Well structured firm tannins (needs decanting) lingering, complex ending with subtle earthy tones. Very Nice, easy drinking will age a bit. — 8 years ago

Jesus H... What a wine. I was a little skeptical at first, but the recommendation came from high. Judging by colour alone I was a little spooked. But man, oh man did this foreign little grape impress. Super floral on the nose, which isn't usually my style, but a nice crispy lime finish made this medium body vin perfect for the flounder we were baking. I had to continuously consciously pause and make sure I wasn't chugging it down . Pairs well with Steve McQueen movies. — 13 years ago

During the month of January, the Wednesday Wine Committee has a unique format...the sparkler, whites and dessert wines can be from any vintage and any location, but the reds must be from the 2007 vintage. It was my first time providing a wine for a lunch, so I was excited to see how it showed. As always, all wines were served blind.
The nose on this smelled of sweet American oak. Because of that, I leaned Spanish or Italian. Per Lloyd from Dumb & Dumber, “I was way off!” Very surprised to see this was from Napa. Vanilla dominated nose. Red, blue and black fruit on the palate. A fairly sweet finish. — 8 years ago
Oh my god. Tried this wine in a standard white wine glass versus a burgundy glass and what a difference. Lloyd knows his flavours and how to bring out the best. Great wine and what an amazingly dedicated and detailed winemaker — 9 years ago

Originally I passed on this wine, it was offered to me and I thought it was just a cute label. Frankly it’s fitting that the imagery deals with school because I failed that test. Talk about smooth, you could be playing poker with Paul Newman while listening to the Rat Pack wearing a leather jacket like Steve McQueen and you would approach this level of smooth and cool. Hardly to no tannins or overwhelming acid but fresh. Low in alcohol, or at least it tastes like it, but just wonderful warm and inviting fruit without being too jammy or over ripe. A small hint of vanilla and just enough sweet spices to keep things interesting. Smells of deep ruby, almost purple fruit. You know that girl that wears sweats to class everyday and later ends up being a runway model? Tasting this is her email saying she always thought you were cute. — 7 years ago
