Dark inky in color with a reddish rim.

Nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light mildew, earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf, dark coffee, light forest floor and black pepper.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Very dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth, dried meats, black tea and light vegetables.

Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 19 year old Syrah from Northern Rhône is still drinking nicely, although definitely not at its peak anymore.

Not in your face kind of wine at this point. Elegant, with nice complexity. Interesting, and still powerful.

Mildew and forest floor notes start to disappear after 90 minutes in the decanter. Still showing some fruit notes though, which is nice to see.

Good by itself or with food.

13% alcohol by volume.

Today we had a vegan Thanksgiving bowl of roasted carrots, acorn squash, brussels sprouts, and broccoli, along with mashed yams, potatoes, toasted pecans, pomegranate, cranberry sauce (with orange zest), and thyme-spiced gravy. 🍁🍁🍁

With it we paired a couple of options each of which went well with the flavors, textures, and elements of the meal… here’s the Gamay…

Famille Dutraive, Fleurie Lieu Dit, Les Deduits 2019. ABV 14.5%. Organically farmed, old vine gamay. Intensely fruity with an abundance of bright cherry, strawberry, cranberry, banana, kirsch on the nose and palate, with noteworthy acidity, high alcohol, soft tannins and notes of vanilla, cinnamon, developed while aging 6 months in oak. Whole cluster, carbonic fermentation 👏👏

Moussé is known for its Pinot Meunier yet this is 100% Chardonnay from a vineyard that was not well suited for Meunier due to the particularly deep soil. I found this to be a delight with lemon-lime citrus of tremendous precision. Minerals like it was San Pellegrino and a long finish. More chiseled than rich. So refreshing. Shimmering magenta. Expressive red/blue fruit and licorice aromas show excellent clarity and pick up mineral and exotic spice flourishes as the wine opens up. Broad and fleshy on entry, offers concentrated boysenberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that tighten up and become sweeter with air. Plutôt de ces envolées fluides, légères, agiles et admirablement tracées livrées par un melon de bourgogne traité aux petits oignons.
